new Hillel Counselor. He is rabbi
of the Shaarey Zedek Congrega-
tion in Lansing. Rabbi Fineberg
was a former chaplain in the serv-
ices, and is deeply interested in
helping this group succeed.

"American Jewry must rally its
support to the pro-democratic
agencies fighting anti-Semitism
and safeguarding our traditional
American liberties," warned Rich-
ard E. Gutstadt, (above) national
director of the Anti-Defamation
League of Bnai Brith, at a meet-
ing held recently in New York
City in behalf of the Joint De-
fense Appeal. Mr. Gutstadt pointed
out that the Joint Defense Appeal
is the financial arm of the Anti-
Defamation League and the Amer-
ican Jewish Committee, enabling
the two national organizations to
fight anti-Semitism and to main-
tain their expanded programs
against the enemies of democracy.

Dr. Herbert Goodman, of Re-
ceiving Hospital, will be guest
speaker at the Feb. 12 meeting of
the Business and Professional
group of Louis Marshall, to be
held at the Lee Plaza at 8:30 p.m.
He will present a fascinating per-
formance on "Aspects of Hypno-
tism." Violin 4 •nd piano selections
will provide interlude music. The
public is invited.

The Pisgah Business and Pro-
fessional Aux. will hold an open
meeting at Webster Hall, Wed-
nesday evening, Feb. 13.
A line program has been

regular monthly meeting of the
Women's Auxiliary of the Detroit
Lodge. Mrs. Chas. Makie, Chair-
man of Americanism and the ADL

and Jack Reifler will present an
interesting skit. Members are
asked to bring canned goods for
Overseas relief, to the meeting.

Dr. Theodore M. Newcomb, as-
sociate professor of sociology at
U. of M. presented the last of the
fall semester Fireside Discussions
at the U. of M. Hillel Foundation
Friday, Feb. 8. Preceding the Fire-
side Discussion traditional Sab-
bath Eve Services were conducted
in the Foundation's Chapel by
Student Cantors Eugene Malitz of
Detroit and Morris Stulberg of
Marshall.
Dr. Newcomb spoke on "German
Post-War Morals: An Analysis."
The talk included a discussion of
the importance of re-educating
German youth and of the chances
of success of this project. He ex-
plained the reasons for the rise of
Nazism and the measures that
may he taken for its ultimate ex-
termination.
An informal social hour followed
the discussion, under the direc-
tion of Frances Pearl of Newark,
N. J. Arrangements for the dis-
cussion were made by the Forums
Committee, directed by co-chair-
men Helen Alpert of Watertown,
N. Y. and Joyce Siegan of Ben-
ton Harbor.

Louis Marshall
Young Women

The Feb. 14th meeting of the
Young Women of Louis Marshall
will be a social gathering at the
Louis Marshall headquarters on
Linwood at 8:30 p.m. Betty Skol-
nilt, program chairman, has ar-
ranged for the movie, "We Are
All Brothers." Classical music se-
lections are being planned by
president, Charlotte Waterstone.
There will be a community sing,
games and refreshments. Girls be-
tween the ages of 18, and 25 are
invited.

"Zionism Today" Is
Symposium Theme

"Zionism Today" is the theme of
a symposium at the Congregation
Bnai David Friday Night Gather-
ing on Friday evening, Feb. 15 at
8:30 p.m.
In this very timely symposium,
will participate the representatives
of the three dynamic movements
in Zionism: General Zionist, Miz-
rachi and Labor Zionist. Mr.
James Ellmann, former President
of the Zionist organization of De-
troit will present the general Zion-
ist point of view. Mr. Irving
Schlussel of Zionist Mizrachi will
represent the religious Zionist
view, and Mr. Wm. Hordes, Presi-
dent of the Jewish National Fund,
active in labor Zionism will speak
for the labor Zionists. Rabbi Jo-
shua Sperka will preside.
Rabbi Joshua Sperka will offi-
ciate together with Cantor Hyman
Adler, who will lead the musical
program during the Service and
during the Oneg-Sabbath hour.

Warsaw Club Raises
$500 at Dinner Party

The Warsaw Club of Detroit
held a Card-Dinner Party on Sun-
day, Feb. 3, at their clubrooms,
10036 Holmur Ave., and among
the guests and members present
$500 was raised for the needy or-
phans in Europe. The Committee
in charge, H. Dermer, Samuel
Dronzek, A. Zeff, S. Geer, and
Mrs. M. Shusterman helped to
make the affair a success. Mr. A.
Bigelman was the toastmaster.
Mrs. Albert Silber, the speaker,
explained the terrible plight of
the orphans in Europe.

The Junior Order of BB Young
Men, Pioneer Chapter, will aid the
Victory Clothing Collection this
week by a door to door collection.
The collection, set for one day
after the official close of the drive,
will be the only house to house
canvass made during the drive.
It will be made on Sunday, Feb.
10 in the neighborhood from Dex-
ter to Linwood and Clairmount to
Davison. Trucks will start on their
rounds at 10 a.m.
After all clothes have been col-
lected, they will be deposited in a
neighborhood police station and
will be picked up by the Clothing
Collection Trucks on Monday as
they make their last rounds.
This group of Bnai Brith is com-
posed almost entirely of veterans
who have volunteered their serv-
ices for this work,
