Mayme Jones and
Esmond Braun Win
Legion School Awards

The annual American Legion
school award exercises took place
on Friday afternoon, Jan. 18, at
the Durfee Intermediate School.
The awards, consisting of medals
and diplomas, are made every
year by the Julius Rosenwald Post
AS American Legion. They are
presented to the outstanding 9A
boy and girl before graduating to
Central High School. The selection
is made by the school faculty.
The girl selected this year is
Nlayme Jones, of 1155 Coiling-
wood, and the boy is Esmond
Braun, of 4075 Lawrence. Both
winners were the guests of the
Rosenwald Post on Wednesday
evening, Jan. 23, at their open
meeting. The awards were made
by Joseph Shapiro, Americaniza-
tion officer of the Julius Rosen-
wald Post 218 American Legion,

Chaplain Marcus to
Speak at Fund Raising
Tea of AJC Women

Chaplain (Capt.) Robert S. Mar-
cus, recently-appointed Director of
the Department of World Jewish
Affairs of the American Jewish
Congress, and representative of
the American Jewish Congress on
the American Committee for the
Rehabilitation of European Jew-
ish Children, will be guest speaker
at the Fifth Annual Fund-Raising
Tea of the Detroit Women's Div-
ision of the American Jewish Con-
gress to be held Feb. 20 at the
Hotel Statler it was announced
recently by Mrs. Max Saidman,
chairman and Mrs. Milton Prag,
vice-president in charge of fund
raising.

New Jewish Courses
Offered on Sundays

Jewish courses have been estab-
lished this month under the aus-
pices of the Council of Jewish
Schools. The courses are given
every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2
p.m. at the Farband School I, 1912
Taylor (near 12th) and are con-
ducted by the well known educa-
tor, Mr. Wolf Snyder. The follow-
ing subjects are taught: Yiddish,
Hebrew, Jewish History and Bible
(Prophets).
For students who have no com-
mand of Yiddish, the courses arc
given in English. Young people
' over 13 are invited to come and
study one or more of the subjects
given.

The Sisters of Zion Mizrachi will
hold their regular meeting, Wed-

Hear Reading of Play

The University Area Women's
Club will hold its next meeting
at the home of Mrs. S. Pozen,

oten, publicity chairman.
Entertainment in the offing will
be the reading of a play by Mrs.
S. Smith.
Demonstrations at the last ses-
sion by Mrs. C. Saffen, member

CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY

The Primrose Benevolent Club
will celebrate fts 15th anniversary,
Sunday, Feb. 17, at the Workmen's
Circle, with Mrs. J. Aaron in
charge of reservations. During the
war, this organization sent more
than 300 articles of canned foods
overseas. Mrs. J. Rodman will in-
vite the two highest teams of the
donor contest to a luncheon at her
home Wednesday afternoon.
