PHILLIP BORTMAN

MARY JACOB

a resident of Detroit for 31 years,
died at the age of 62 on Sunday,
Jan. 6. The funeral took place
from Hebrew Benevolent Society
with the interment at the Hebrew
Memorial Park. Rabbi Rabinovitz
officiated. Leaders of the Kashe
Nover-Besrabier and Minkovitzer-
Podolier Societies, of which he
was a member, eulogized him.
Mr. Bortman is survived by his
widow, Eva; two sons, Joseph C.
and Ned H.; two daughters, Mrs.
Alex Brooks and Miss E. Bort-
man, six grandchildren and a bro-
ther, Harry.

of 18420 Hartwell, died Jan. 4, at
the age of 65. Funeral services
were held at Lewis Bros., with
burial in Cloverhill Park Ceme-
tery. She was a member of Home
Relief Society and and Women's
Auxiliary of Jewish Home for
Aged. Surviving are five sons, Au-
brey, David G., William J., Ben
and Sam; three daughters, Mrs.
Herbert Sobel of Chicago, Mrs.
Joseph Epsteen and Mrs. Joseph
Garbow; one sister, and two
grandchildren.

formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, and
late of Los Angeles, Calif., died
on Jan. 13 at the age of 51. He
leaves his wife and daughter, of
that city, father, Henry Klein and
sisters Mrs. Jean Schlesinger and
Mrs. Louis M. Bloomberg of De-
troit.

MORRIS SHLENSKY

of 3500 Lake Shore Drive, Chicago,
died Jan. 2, at the age of 84. He
was a member of the board of di-
rectors of the Hebrew Theological
College and a charter member of
Anshe Sholom Congregation. Mr.
Shlensky, a retired real estate op-
erator, was one of the early set-
tlers in Joliet and came to Chi-
cago in 1918. In 1892 he founded
the Jewish Free Burial Ground in
Waldheim Cemetery. He was a di-
rector of Anshe Sholom Congre-
gation, the Jewish Shelter House,
and of other charitable and reli-
gious organizations. Surviving are
three sons, six daughters, 19
grandchildren and one great-
child.

Funeral services were held on
Tuesday from the Hebrew Benev-
olent Society with interment at the
Hebrew Memorial Park. Rabbi
Moses Fischer officiated. He is
survived by four sons, Zoltan of
Baltimore, Md., Staff Sgt. Martin,
George and Edward; four daugh-
ters, Mary Trager, Esther Klein,
Rose Housman, and Clara Kohn,
and five grandchildren.

Services were held at the Ira
Kaufman Funeral Home. Rabbi
Sperka and Cantor Sonenklar of-
ficiated. He leaves his wife, Jen-
nie; two sons, Dr. Morris and Dr.
Isadore; a daughter, Mrs. Meyer
Rubin; three sisters, Mrs. M. Has-
sel, Mrs. Joe Halpert and Mrs.
Harry Dancik of New York. In-
terment was at Machpelah Ceme-
tery.
