highlights the weekend program
at the University of Michigan

member of the social committee
of the IRA, Inter-Racial Associa-
tion. She is also on the program
committee for the Russian circle,
RussIty Kruzhok, and a member
of the French Club. In addition,
Sonny is quite a songstress.

The hay-ride is scheduled for
Saturday evening, Jan. 19. Follow-
ing the ride the couples will re-
turn to the Foundation for danc-
ing and refreshments. Mr. and
Mrs. J. P. Cohan and Rabbi and
Mrs. Cohen will be the chaperones.
Arrangements for the evening
were made by the Social Commit-
tee under the direction of Barbara
Levin of East Chicago, Ind., Mar-
shall Wallace of Detroit, and Betty
Friedlander of Bridgeport, Conn.

The Committee for Liberal Ac-
tion met January 9. Various pro-
posals were discussed and approv-
ed, including the decision to send
letters to Senator Arthur Vanden-
berg, delegate to the UNO, and to
Michigan representatives In the
House, endorsing President Tru-
man's seven points given in his
recent address to the nation. Sec-
retary of this group is Judy Ja-
cobs of Detroit. Judy is a member

The State Department of the Jewish War Veterans
announces that it has retained the American Le-
gion Auxiliary Drum and Bugle Corp., Wayne Coun-
ty No. 1 as a special feature for its coming Vic-
tory Military Ball to be held Saturday night, Feb.
23 at the Masonic Temple.

The Corp is under the personal direction of R.
C. "Tillie" Cohen, who organized it in Detroit in
1934. The corp is made up entirely of women who
are members of the American Legion Ladies Auxi-
liary of Detroit. Eligibility to this corp is through
relationship of a father, brother or husband who

served in the first World War and saw action in
France.

They have been on exhibition from coast to
coast and have won the Michigan Ladies Auxiliary
Championship each year from 1936 through 1912

Veterans, Major Alfred Fleishman
of St. Louis, Mo., now on terminal

New Post Formed

A new post of Jewish War Vet-
erans of U. S. has been organized
to be known as Sgt. Morton A.
Silverman Post. This is the sev-
enth J.W.V. post in the Detroit
area.
Seymour I. Caplan, recently dis-
charged Captain in the U. S. Ar-
my and a member of Army Mili-
tary Government, was elected as
temporary chairman.
In explaining the name of the
new post, Mr. Caplan said:
"Our post is named after a De-
troit Jewish boy, Sgt. Morton A.
Silverman, who was killed while
serving in the infantry in Ger-
many. This boy entered the Army
immediately on his graduation
from high school and was dead
before he was 21.
Sgt. Morton A. Silverman was
the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Mey-
er Silverman, 2901 W. Grand Ave.

The Men's Club of Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek will have its
next monthly presentation on
Wednesday evening, Jan. 23, at
8:30 p.m., in the Social Hall of
the Shaarey Zedek, at which time
it will present Judah Bleich, re-
cently of the New York Yiddish

The Maz-All Club held their
Seventh Annual Banquet at the
Bowery, Jan. 7. It was voted that
their charity contributions be
