With Sally Fields

The whispering shout of th e
quietude of this room ('tis the we e
wee hours of Wednesday morn
the dawn's about to break, not
soul's been around since midnite
has seduced my mind (oh, oh, no
that) to the point where I've bee n
staring into space for "eons" won
dering how to start. If I wait 1
few more wink
I can just say
"Top of the
'morning to ye
laddies and las
sies" - - No-no
see, I told you
I meant to
greet you with
"Gut morgen!"

•

How wonder-
ful to be able
to be going
Sally Fields
places again —
Not to have to worry about gas
shortage, tire rationing and what
have you. What! You have a date
with the best boy friend? He has
just returned from nippin' the
Nips? You haven't seen him in
three years and you're all ex-
cited? (Mamma mia! I would be
too, if I had a best friend.) What
could be sweeter than a nice long,
cuddling ride on a clear winter's
nite, with the moon shining bright
(1y), a smooth highway leading
directly to the spot out Pontiac
way every one's talking about—
just far enough out to be interest-
ing—(And girls, Earl Olive, the
very genial manager, isn't too dull
either.) (Mama mia, didn't I say
my mind was seduced?.) At the
end of that trail is the Club Rio
where Ernie Mitchell's musical
strains still keep you wrapped in
that same mood . . where the
steaks or the chops or the lobsters
take care of the gnawing hunger
pains which finally seep thru the
spell .. where the liquor and the
service Is hmmm!

What a party! What a party!
Never in my born days did I see
so much liquor or so much food!
'Tis the Ezrach soiree at the
Blaine Restaurant given by the
Ezrach brothers (Izzie, Frank,
Alec) celebrating the return of
their baby brother Max "Mackey"
from the Philippines and points
in the Pacific. Such "celebs" as
Abe Hertzberg, Joey Rosenthal
(Blvd-Linwood Bar, Ben Krugel,
Marvin Fiarman (Anchor Bar),
Jack Haley, Sherman Fine (Abe
H's nephew) Phil Lang of Toledo
(Mackey's overseas buddy) Hy and
Min Tucker (314 Bar) and so
many, many more, much too nu-
merous to mention. Good luck
boys! Here's to more such sim-
chez!" •
The Italian foods served at Pa-
pa Joe's capture all the rich flav-
ors tihd aromas of carefully select-
ed seasonings .. Caruso's chef too,
has acquired that knack for dis-
pensing Italy's favorite dishes
with a supreme tastiness . . and
I've learned, too, that Jo Jo's is
another spot where the menu
boasts anything you'd want in
Italian delights. Jo Jo's open until
4 a. m., too!

Tear jerkers -old love letters, "I
love you darling, and I'm so afraid
you'll stop loving me and that you
don't is more important than any-
thing in the world. I've so many
things to be thankful for—your
letters and you." Emil Rutherford,
colored baritone at Bobbies sing-
ing "Yiddishc Mamma" to Mrs.
Weisberg, the non-Jewish wife of
Louie Weisberg, who incidentally,
always requests the number . .
pictures like that appearing in our
own front page, of old couples
celebrating their golden wedding
anniversaries (Biz hundert und
zwanzig yahr, Mr. and Mrs.
Schwartz). What trials and tribu-
lations they've known! What hap-
piness must have been their's!
What a full life they are living!

Crave a bit of Oriental delights?
Nom Wah, the place with the mir-
rored front dispenses native Chi-
nese dishes with an impeccable ex-
actness to taste . .. Chung's, too,
just a bit down the street, has
been known for years thruout the
country for its famous Chinese
dishes.

Dropped in at the Cinema The-
atre to chat with Art Leazenby,
the very capable and very, very
likeable in a n -
ager. Was sur-
prised at the
number of pa-
trons he greet-
ed by name
and more so
when I learned
he's only known
them since his
sojourn at the
Cinema. . Spent
a very delight-
ful time, too,
watching Snow-
Natasha
White and the
Seven Dwarfs (the famous Walt
Disney production. What a picture
for the kiddies .. And by all ap-
pearances, what a film for the
adults. Understand 5,252 kiddies
and more than double that amount
of grown-ups saw it. . How about
bringing in Pinnochto? Am look-
ing forward to meeting Mr. Baker,
the big boss from the big city. Art
told me so much about him . .
"Once There was a girl," which
features the 5-yr-old Natasha Za-
shipian and 9-yr.-old Nina Ivan-
ova, is the new Soviet film of the
children of Leningrad during the
siege. The Detroit premiere is
Wed., Jan. 9. In addition there's
"Christmas Slipper," excerpts from

Bernstein (Leslie Ave.) in first
shiny black straw, very pert cha-

And here's to twins (the potential
pop says that's what he ordered)
to the Harry Bernsteins who en-
tertained Benny Miller (one time
Detroit's favorite crooner and still
not hard on the ears) 'cause he
had another birthday. How old,
Benny? 35? "A chutz shabosim
und a chutz yontavim." All kiddin'
aside Benny says, "Life's just be-
ginning." And he's still on the
loose, gals.

One of the reasons for Pfeiffer's
popularity—George Verries—there's
a guy can make more friends in a
minute—Chamber of Commerce of
Petoskey ought to put Herman
Feldman (of the Furrier Feldmans
of Petoskey). He breathes more
good-will for that northern coun-
try in an evening's conversation
than C. of C. bulletins can in an
age. Herman tells us there's plenty
humming around the old Ramona
Gardens at Harbor Springs . . .
Dick Wolf, sales manager for Al-
tes does a good job for Tivoli's
public relations, too.
