Lectures Jan. 6,
At Jewish Center

Leibush Lehrer, leading Jewisn
educator and psychologist, will
feature the next program in the
Yiddish Culture Series arranged
by the Joint Yiddish Culture Com-
mittee of the Jewish Community
Center and Community Council.
Mr. Lehrer will speak here on
Sunday evening, January 6, at
9:00 p.m. in the Center auditorium,
Woodward at Holbrook.
His subject will be "Attitudes of
Jews to Jews," one of the prob-
lems to which Mr. Lehrer has de-
voted considerable research and
thought, and on which he has writ-
ten extensively in many English
and Yiddish periodicals.
This lecture will be the third in
this year's series of Yiddish cul-
tural programs sponsored by the
Joint Committee. The series is
supported by a large number of
organizations affiliated with the
Community Council, which are in-
terested in enjoying and advancing
Yiddish cultural activity. The se-
ries includes holiday festival pro-
grams, lectures, concerts, and pro-
grams based on cultural move-
ments in Jewish history, such as
Hasidism, Chalutziut and Mes-
sianism.
Tickets at half price have been
distributed among the cooperating
organizations. Additional tickets at
60 cents will be on sale at the Cen-
ter on the evening of the lecture.
The program begins promptly at
9:00 p.m.

begin its 1916 season, continuing
as usual, with the first and third
Saturday evening of the month a
social gathering, and the second
and fourth a cultural meeting. Men

Book Review

Mrs. Morris Adler will review
Louis Adamic's "A Nation of Na-
tions" at the tea-talk which will
be held at the Jewish Community
Center on Sun., Jan. 6. The musi-
cal portion of the program will be
furnished by Marion Ruskin, pian-
ist. Mrs. Leonard H. Weiner is
chairman of ,the affair. Refresh-
ments will be served. The program
will be held in the main audi-
torium and will begin at 3:30 p.m.

The culminating event of the
Honor Roll Project of the Busi-
ness and Professional Division of
Hadassah will be a luncheon on
Sunday, Jan. 13, at the Lee Plaza
Hotel. The Honor Roll is a "sacri-
fice and give" donation to help
raise the Division's quota toward
the maintenance of Hadassah's
Palestinian Projects. Rabbi Eliezar
Levi of the Bnai Moshe Synagogue
will be the guest speaker and the
musical portion of the program
will be rendered by Morris Hoch-
berg, violinist of the Detroit Sym
phony Orchestra accompanied by
his wife, Sylvia Hochberg.

In The Month January

Mr. Julian Wisan, Director of
Youth activities of the National
Council of Young Israel, will meet
with the Youth Committee and
club leaders of the Detroit organi-
zation, Sunday, Dec. 30, for a dis-
cussion of the special activities,
activities methods, and problems
of the local youth program. Plans
for Young Israel's new center pro-
gram will be formulated. Mr. Wi-
san will observe various activities
of the program during his visit,
which begins December 30.
The national Young Israel youth
program conducted by Mr. Wisan
is rapidly expanding its scope and
enrollment. In New York City
alone 188 clubs function with a
membership of 3119 boys and girls.
An additional 2000 children are en-
rolled in clubs sponsored by Young
Israel branches outside New York
for a total of well over 5,000, ex-
clusive of the various Young Is-
rael boys' congregations. A wide
range of activities are included in
the club program, such as Arts
and Crafts, Singing, Palestinian
Dancing, Boy Scouting, Holiday
Celebrations, etc. Emphasis is
placed bn integration of religious
educational and recreational ac-
tivities; members of the clubs are
given a sense of unity with boys
and girls of other Young Israel
clubs throughout the country.

Pioneer Women Com-
plete Arrangements
For 15th Donor

All final arrangements have
been completed toward the Fif-
teenth Annual Donor Event of the
Pioneer Women's Organization to
be held on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 1:30
in the afternoon at the Masonic
Temple, with Helen Waren as the.
guest speaker and Gertrude Ribta
as soloist.
It is estimated that over two
thousand donors are expected to
participate in this annual fund-
raising project.
Word has been received from
the Working Women's Council in
Palestine that the erection of the
second of a series of 25 children's
homes has begun at Kfar Saba.
Marie Syrkin, noted journalist and
member of the national executive
of the Pioneer Women's Organi-
zation, signed the foundation scroll.
This children's home is to be the
entire project of the Pioneer Wo-
men's groups in Detroit. The forth-
coming donor will supply the ma-
jor sum in behalf of this building
project.

Sisters of Zion Mizrachi
Plan Open Meeting

The Sisters of Zion Mizrachi
will conduct an open meeting on
Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the Rosen-
berg Catering Co., 9925 Dexter
Blvd., at 12:30. A dessert luncheon
will be served and the delegates
of the convention will give an in-
teresting report.
At a special board meeting, at
the home of Mrs. Ethel Abrams,
Mrs. Joseph N. Kunin, the presi-
dent, appointed Mrs. Isaac Rosen-
thal chairman and Mrs. Rose
Singer co-chairman of the Child
Rescue Fund project.
On Dec. 3, the Sisters of Zion
Mizrachi under the supervision of
the chairman, Mrs. Jacob Nosan-
chuck, and her committee were
hostesses to service men and wo-
men at the downtown USO. 1200
sandwiches and other refreshments
were served.
Mrs. Faber, who has been to-
tally blind for a number of years,
did not let her affliction stop her
kindliness to humanity. Through
the generosity of her friends, she
raised $355 and the Stollner or-
ganization helped to swell the
amount to $480 for the adoption
of two orphans of the Child Res-
cue Fund.
