The protest meeting of the
New Zionist Organization of De-

the Bnai Moshe Synagogue. De-
spite the bitter cold, more than
two hundred persons assembled in
the social hall.
This was a different kind of
group than one would expect.
There were no fur coats in the
crowd. Old men were there with
white beards. Old women were
there with shawls on their heads.
Young folks were there too, some
of them with worn clothes, and
hands that showed signs of hard
work.
In every eye there was a kind
of grim determination, a sober
realization of the desperation of the
situation. There was none of the

WASHINGTON (JTA) — The
six American members of the An-
glo-American Commission on Pal-
estine spent half an hour with
President Truman last Saturday,
accompanied by Under - Secretary
of State Dean Acheson.
After leaving the White House,
Judge Joseph C. Hutcheson, Am-
erican chairman of the committee.
told the press that January 1 has
been tentatively set as the date on
which the 120-day period — dur-
ing which the committee has been
asked to complete its inquiry —
will begin. He said that the body
expects to be well advanced be-
fore the first of the year with
preparations for their work, includ-
ing assembling data and gather-
ing facts. "We are all in agree-
ment," he said, "that the matter
should be and can be expedited."

Judge Hutcheson said that the
President told the committee mem-
bers that he was aware that they
had a hard job, but that he has
hopes for the work they will ac-
complish.

The American chairman said
that he has been in touch. by
trans-Atlantic telephone and tele-
type, with the British section of
the committee. Both groups, h.
said, have agreed to proceed "with
the greatest possible expedition
Both realize the urgency of th.
matter, and are determined to
bend every effort in accomplish-
ing it."

Judge Hutcheson said that the
committee may have an announce-
ment next week on the personnel
of its secretariat. He added that
he has discussed with the British
the time and place of joint meet-
ings, which have not been decided
yet, organization and, to a very
small extent, methods of conduct-
ing the investigation. No plans
have been set ygt for visiting Pal-
estine, nor a date set for the Am-
e leans to go abroad, he reported.

A grey haired woman with wrinkles of years,
Cheeks that have known thousands of tears.
A generous, sturdy, but scarred brave heart,
Two hands that have toiled to do their part.

Eyes that are blue as the deepest sea.
Eyes that now plead, "Bring him back to me."
Eyes that have faith, that are loving and kind.
Eyes that may dim, but are never resigned.

A Mother, your Mother, and my Mother too,
No matter the odds, she'll see it thru
We sailed 'cross the sea, to fight in this war,
While she stayed at home, and prayed on the shore.
