Shecter, chairman of the Twelfth Street Merchants Association and vice chairman of the war bond drive in the Twelfth Street area, claimed credit for his organizaton for having done one of the out- standing bond selling jobs of the war. How the National Jewish Wel- fare Board can strengthen the program of the Jewish Com- munity Center and more closely relate the work of the, Detroit Army and Navy Committee to that of the Center will be de- termined by an independent sur- vey started recently under Jewish Welfare Board auspices, it was announced yesterday by Samuel IL Rubiner, president of the Jewish Community Center. Requiring about a year for completion, the survey will be made under the direction of Dr Oscar Janowsky, professor of History and International Rela- tions at C. C. N. Y. and author of "The .Jews and Minority Rights." Shecter's store was the issuing agency for the Twelfth Street district. Max Raimi, of Detroit Laundry Supply is publicity director. Both of these men give credit to the merchants of Twelfth Street for their untiring efforts. They also give credit to the gallants and the organizations who bring the bond sales in. All of the bond sales have been in small amounts, varying from twenty- five to a thousand dollars per sale. Commenting on the two leaders, Frank N. Isbey, Chairman of the War Finance Committee, made the following statement. "We have no other workers in our War Finance army that have contributed more than Nate Shecter and Jack Halperin for the pa3t four and a half year. They have never failed to do continuously everything they could as patriots and volunteers. They have done a magnificent job. We propose to recognize their efforts as soon as JACK HALPERIN the Victory Loan Drive is over." HERE SINCE 1923 Shecter has been in this country since 1923. He left Bessarabia when he was twenty years old. Bessarabia was then a province of Russia but when he visited there again in 1925, it belonged to Rumania. He has been in the fur- niture and appliance business since then. He is married and has two children. He belongs to the Bnai Brith and is a member of Pisgah Lodge.
