The survey was conducted
among American Jews in city

coast, for the Hausman Foun-
dation of New York City, a pri-
vate charitable foundation, in no

any other organization.
"Particularly significant is
Mr. Roper's statement that the
decision for or against a Jewish
State in Palestine seems to be
taken with a high degree of
firmness," the Senators declared.
"Seventy-seven percent of those
who answered had already made
up their minds and only 9.4
percent of those interviewed
were undecided on the issue."

ed to give first aid to the wound-

A large section of the Pales-
tine coast, north of Tel Aviv,
was under curfew, while in Tel
Aviv itself tension was reported
to be mounting. One night, in-
habitants lined the road between
the city and Herzlia in defiance
of the curfew.
The invasion of the Jewish
settlements followed the blast-
ing of two coast guard stations,
and a broadcast by the secret
Jewish radio declaring that the
two posts had been active in
hunting for the immigrants from
the Demetrios. The broadcast
stressed that illegal Jewish im-
migration would be continued at
all costs.
Two Jewish-manned fishing
boats and their crew of 12 were
detained for allegedly participat-
ing in the landing of the De-
metrios' passengers. The 12 were
sent to the Latrun detention
camp, where the British have
confined an unknown number ,f
suspected terrorists. Thirteen
other persons are reported to
have been detained along the
shore between Herzlia and Na-
thanya on suspicion that they
were illegal entrants.
The British authorities are re-
ported to be using aircraft, de-
stroyers and radar in a move
to halt illegal entry of Jews.
Meanwhile, the Palestine Gov-
ernment is rapidly liquidating
the Jewish super-numerary po-
lice, which were organized when
the Nazi forces led by Field
Marshal Rommel threatened
Egypt and Palestine. They have
been withdrawn from guard duty
and military depots and air-
dromes and replaced by units

NEW YORK (JTA) — Form-
er President Herbert Hoover in
a statement issued here this
week, proposed moving Pales-
tine's Arabs to reclaimed land
in Iraq in order to settle the
Palestine problem.
His suggestion, based on the
fiindings of a British report, is
that Iraq be aided to reconstruct
the ancient irrigation works of
the Tigris and Euphrates val-
leys.
The report referred to by Mr.
Hoover was made by Sir Wil-
liam Willcocks, an eminent Brit-
ish engineer, 30 years ago. He
estimated that about 2,800,000
acres of the most fertile land in
the world could be recovered at
a cost under 150 million dollars.
The idea of moving the Arabs
out of Palestine, according to
the former President, was orig-
inally suggested by the British
Labor Party in December, 1944.
However, he said, at that time,
they had no "adequate plan as
to where and how they were to

go."

an all-electric home complete with a practically automatic kitchen, a grand

time-saving laundry and the newest air-conditioning unit. Some of our

friends have electric kitchens and laundries and we know of the many labor-

saving advantages they offer. However, we are especially interested in the

air-conditioning unit with its pure, conditioned air which bids fair to make

ours a cleaner, more healthful home."

Electric equipment is not generally available for
sale now. Some is being manufactured and dis-
tributed. It will be to your advantage to have your
name on your electrical dealer's list, so that you
will be able to get it at the earliest possible time.
