Amterka gewish Periodical Cotter CLIFTON AVENUE - CINCINNATI 20, OHIO Friday, November 30, 1945 DETROIT JEWISH CHRONICLE and The Legal Chronicle ihe S r Rio Grande Cafe Good Food . .. Fine Liquor Entertainment Nightly JACK COOPER (Master of the Keyboards) Stage and Se•een and Mrs. Louis Fox, here. The Mrs. Sidney Savage entertained in their honor at the Hartstcins last Monday. • With Sally Fields which the affairs were handled and to the Port Huron lodge and auxiliary for being such able hosts and hostesses. • Where was Mabel? • When Benny Fields, current feature star of the Latin Quar- ter show, who's tearing the house down with requests for old memorable tunes, stepped up on the platform during the Primrose lun- cheon last Tues- day and said with Benny Fields a catch in his throat -- here because you are 'unsere menchen.' " Thank God, he's not a Galitz — I'm only foolin') . . There was many a tug at the heart and a tear in the eye. Only a person with a deep affection, sympathy and a really true Jew- ish consciousness, and with a pro- found loyalty to Jewish values, would get up "in the middle of the nite" for to a nite club per. former the scales of nite and day are reversed) after only a few hours' rest. From his brief, seri- ous words re: this "crazy-upside down world," his humorous stor- ies at which even Rabbi Glazer had to smile, his rendition of old time tunes in which the audience joined, to these final good words — "Mit mazel and broche," keep healthy, keep happy, keep your bonds," he kept the guests in the palm of his hand wavering between laughs and tears. . . Another very interesting feature of the luncheon was the Sax-Kay fashion show (of which Mr. Win- kelman ought to be quite proud). From furs to negligees, which contained some lovely creations and was so ably conducted by Mrs. Isabelle Stickey, f ash ion editor and her lovely lovely mod- els. Rose Ehrichman was donor chairman. 'Twas a job really well done and may it truly be crowned "mit mazel and broche." • Which brings me to the Latin Quarter Revue for the week. . If you like South American mu- sic, singing and dancing (and who doesn't) and old tunes sung by America's No. One minstrel man, then the current revue at the Latin Quarter should be on the top of your entertainment list. Besides Benny Fields, the inimitable singer of old and new songs, and his ad lib comedy re- marks, "Remember," "Melancholy Baby," which Benny introduced and subsequently made famous Rima's featured star vivacious, petite Brazilian Alvira Camargo, who has personality plus, offers "Take It Easy," "Good, good, Good," and her "Mama Caro" — Charley Boy Rimac and Mechita Mejia do various Latin dances. Ciro Rimac and Mechita dance the samba, which Ciro introduced Page Fifteen into this country several years ago. As the drums beat a steady staccato, the body of dancer Do- riita Sevilla quivers in frenzied abandon as she portrays a jun- gle dance. Bare-footed and dress- ed in a brief white feathered cos- tume, Dorita holds you spellbound in eager anticipation. . . The Red- ingtons create much laughter with their bouncing and somer- saults on a tarpaulin. . . The new line produced by Virginia Tiff (direct from 6 years at Chi- cago's Edgewater Beach Hotel) do some colorful production num- bers one of which features pretty songstress Jeanne Rand. It's Bobbie Stevenson's very capable musical trio and sweet vocaliz- ing of Jeanne during lulls, and talented Tommy Montgomery at the organ in the beautiful cock- tail lounge. • What a wealth of entertain- ment at Bobbie's, where Detroit's niteries starring acts gather for a late snack and stuff. Lt. Barney Green, still in uniform, handles those ivories so that its well worth the admission to any concert hall. . The regulars on Bobbie's own list of entertainers include' Char- lie Ileminger, who's no slouch on the piano either. Rutherford in song classics, Jones, the sing- er of torchy sentimental tunes, with the female end of the show held up by Mattie Hedgeman, who sings everything from sweet tunes to hot, tut jive. Bobbie, herself, is a pleasing and diplo- matic hostess. Food served all nite. . . A very gracious and charming visitor from Grand Rapids last week was Miss Ducky Lewis. • And to his honor, Mayor Pro- tem Carl Muir for his address of welcome to Bnai Brith's Jew- ry. , • What or who is the reason for Ginger Marx's (Ginger Hats) fly- ing trips to Chicago lately? Can't be business — Ugh, ugh — not that often. Rose Cochran of N.Y. and points east is her flying mate. • Mr. and Mrs. Louis Grossman, former Detroiters, visiting Mr. Grossmans hail from Minneapo- lis.
