At first glance, geology would appear to be just about the last science in the world that would lend itself to bettering cultural re- lations between the Jews of Palestine and the world outside. Yet, through the brilliant work and unofficial statesmanship of Professor Leo Picard, head of the Geological Institute of the Hebrew Univer- sity in Jerusalem, the position of Jewry in Palestine has been greatly improved in the past decade. In this country for a few weeks prior to flying back to Pales- tine, Professor Picard revealed a few details of the mission that brought him here for the first time since 1937 and for the second time in his life.
