Chronicle Salutes Pisgah Women . •

A Word of Greeting . . .

The Chronicle extends its greet-
ings to the Pisgah Women's Aux-
iliary of Bnai Brith as the larg-
est and most influential of all
women's organizations in Detroit.
For their untiring work in fur-
therance of Jewish causes in this
city, for their unflagging zeal in
carrying out the program mapped
out in the years of service by
Bnai Brith, for their staunch part
in demonstrating the niche to be
occupied by the wives and the
mothers of Israel, we sing their
praise.
Eleven years have passed speed-
ily and fruitfully since the auxil-
iary was first organized. From a
little handful of thirty-two pio-
neers, the organization has grown
and developed into a formidable
group whose scope and power are
seemingly limitless in their efforts
for good. Service to the corn-
munity is their watchword.
In this issue, their past history
and accomplishments are pre-
sented. The names of those wo-
men whose zeal and devotion
have made possible the notable
achievements which they have to
their credit are given, particular-
ly all the past presidents and
those who have worked with
them. We congratulate all these
women and wish them continued
success.
Entitled to the name of Women
of Valor are the presidents past and
present of this organization. Of
them it could never be said that
they toil not, neither do they spin.
If one is to judge by methods of
procedure, by lofty aims, by care-
ful planning, by indefatigable labor
or by any standards of accomplish-
ment, then the women of Pisgah
Auxiliary take top place in any sort
of ranking. Hats off to these ladies.
The Chronicle lists them in the
order of their appearance on the
scene with a brief commentary of
each administration, the highlights
of the affairs of each and the names
of people and places familiar to
some and informative to others.
Let the community honor them for
what they have done. Let other
groups follow their example.

The president herself was un-
able to be present at the affair
but there is still in existence the
copy of her telegram giving her
heartiest good wishes for the suc-
cess of the evening.
There were only thirty-two
members to start the organiza-
tion and even these were not all
active. It was a far cry then from
the many hundreds of members
who now grace the rolls. The
minutes of a meeting held on
April 2, 1935, show the following
members present: Helen Tanner,
Esther Fidler, Katherine Liebe-
schutz, Betty Gath, Rose Agree,
Sophie Cohen, Rose Garelik, Mil-
dred Rosenberg, Hannah Harvith,

Charlotte Gant, Lois Leit, Mollie
Yudkoff, Anne Aaronson, Leah

N. D. Metzger, Mrs. Droock, Mrs.
J. Sanders and Mrs. V. Fean.
On January 27, 1936, officers
were installed following a din-
ner which took place at the L'Ai-
glon. The guest of the evening
was Mrs. Louis Herzon of Chi-
cago, first vice president of the
Grand Lodge, who installed the
newly elected officers. They were:

Back In the fall of 1934, under
the sponsorship of the late Na-

was organized. The first president
was Ruth Metzger Feldman who

has since been honored as Hon-
orary President and who later
became a past president of Wo-
men's District Grand Lodge num-
ber six.
Affairs were held, one after
another, and the tone was set
from the very start that has been
kept up through the years. This
was marked by excellent enter-
tainment, money raising for wor-
thy purposes and the carrying
out of all the aims and ideals set
forth by Bnai Brith.
One of the successful enter-
tainment programs of this season
was the Molly Picon concert ar-
ranged at Orchestra Hall by the
women of this lodge. Miss Picon
gave a recital of character sketch-
es in costume. Tickets were sold
at many places and the affair was
a notable success.

At the close of the year, an
open social meeting was held in
the Bnai Moshe library. Miss
Esther Etkin reviewed "Trumpet
of Jubilee" by Ludwig Lewissokn.
A tremendous membership drive
took place and was remarkably
successful.

MRS. JOSEPH SANDERS

Miss Charlotte Gant, publicity
chairman, and Mrs. Norman Rom,
ticket chairman.
By now, there were four hun-
dred members attending meetings
of special import. The women's
lodge was growing by leaps and
bounds. The ladies were discover-
ing there was fun as well as op-
portunities for service being of-
fered and they were taking full
advantage of both.

On June 21, 1937, the installa-
tion of new officers took place at
Huyler's in the Fisher Building.
The incoming officers were: Mrs.
Harry Tanner, president; Miss

members: Mrs. Jacob Harvith,
Mrs. Victor Finn; Mrs. Dave Dia-
mond, Mrs. M. Goldberg, Miss
Anne Aaronson, Mrs. William
Grosberg, Mrs. Leo Turner, Mrs.

During Miss Gant's administra-
tion, a notable expansion and im-
provement took place. The bul-
letin, "The Menorah" was ex-
panded from a mimeographed
edition to an eight page printed
pamphlet. This publication twice
won honorable mention in Na-
tional Bnai Brith Bulletin Awards
Abut this time, Miss Gant was
employed in a secretarial capac-
ity to Men's District Grand
Lodge No. 6 in Chicago, a signal
evidence that women do have a
place in a man's world.

the person of Mildred Prady, was
there in person, bejeweled and
bedecked according to the proper
tradition. The show was the cul-
mination of a membership drive.

The mother-daughter program
was a huge success. Mrs. Solovich
acted as chairman. Highlight of
the affair was a fashion show.
All Junior Auxiliaries were in
vited to attend.

Mrs. Solovich was installed at
