NEW YORK — Jewish com- munities throughout the nation are preparing for the greatest drives in their history in behalf of the United Jewish Appeal for Refugees, Overseas Needs and Palestine. More than 1,600 com- munities are conducting Fall cam- paigns. Expenditures and appropria- tions of both the Joint Distribu- tion Committee and the United Palestine Appeal at the present time are at their highest mark since the advent of the Nazi re- gime. Increased quotas have been adopted by all the communities. The keynote for the postwar reconstruction effort was sounded last week in Boston as the com- munity embarked on a campaign to raise $3,000,000. Addressing the Boston Keynote Dinner, Rab- bi Joshua L. Liebman declared that now that World War II is over, the Jews of the United States face the challenge of "un- doing Hitler's work" or finishing his job of destruction. The Talker's Club of the Cen- ter will hold its first meeting of the season at 8:30 p.m., Oct. 6. The Club membership will be limited so that each member will have equal opportunity to im- prove.
