Hadassah Business, r--
Professional Group • THE BRONZE STAR BRIGADE
To Meet Tuesday
VICTORY FOR AMERICA—These newly decorated new Americans
helped win victory

in Europe and in the Pacific. Their heroic service
won the Bronze Star for each of them. They are just a few of the
tens of thousands of new Americans helped by the National Refugee
Service who have given a good account of themselves on the field of
battle. The National Refugee Service receives its funds from the
United Jewish Appeal.

The Business and Professional
Division of Hadassah has launch-
ed a membership campaign. A
meeting for the membership and
prospective members will be held
on Tuesday evening, Sept. 25, at
the home of Dr. Peter M. Bern-
stein, 2314 W. Boston Blvd.
Miss Ethel Rosenthal, the mem-
bership chairman, announced that
Hadassah has had a national in-
crease of 50,000 members during
the year. Hadassah now has over
150,000 members organized in
more than 700 chapters and
groups in every state. Miss Ro-
senthal says Hadassah is now the
biggest Zionist organization in
the United States.
Hadassah, which was organized
in 1912 by the late Miss Henriet-
ta Szold, is the largest health
agency in Palestine. It built and
maintains a network of welfare
stations, a medical center on Mt.
Scopus outside of Jerusalem, pub-
lic health, school hygiene, school
luncheons, vocational education
and recreation projects in Pales-
tine. Hadassah will erect a 200-
bed tuberculosis hospital in the
Holy Land as soon as materials
can be released. The organization
is also the official representative
of the Youth Aliyah movement
which has rescued and settled
more than 15,000 Jewish refugee
children in the last decade and
cooperates in land buying and re-
forestation activities.
The meeting will highlight the
new and old Hadassah projects
and introduce this year's educa-
tional program for the Division.
A social hour will follow. An in-
vitation is extended to all busi-
ness and professional women in
the city to ahiiiate with the
group. Miss Rosenthal can be
reached at Tyler 4-2190. The Ha-
dassah office is located at 9144
Linwood Ave., Tyler 7-8216.

At present, this city, which
once had the reputation of being
the "Jerusalem of Lithuania" and
the center of Jewish culture, is
still a hollow religious and cul-
tural shell. But even now there
is every evidence of efforts to
reestablish the Jewish communal
life. Two synagogues have al-
ready been repaired. Others are
to be repaired as soon as mate-
rials and funds are available. A
number of Jewish libraries have
reopened and cultural and relig-
ious bodies are functioning again.
