Serve USO Brunch
Ten members of the Mt. Sinai
Hospital Association recently serv-
ed at a Brunch for servicemen
and women held at the Jewish
Community Center. The women
paid for the food out of their
own pockets. Those who served
included the following:

Brand, Charles Gitlin, Louis Gold-
fine, Jacob Harvith, Max Har-
wood, Isadore Harris, Daniel
Rachmiel and Harry Singer.

Immediate construction of the
ground floor of the Northwest
Synagogue was authorized by the
board of directors of the North-
west Congregation and Center at
a meeting last week.
The Congregation, meanwhile,
is conducting High Holy Day ser-
vices at the Bagley School. The
services will be led by Rabbi Ab-
raham Millgram, a graduate of
the Jewish Theological Seminary,
Columbia University and Dropsie
College. Cantor Nathan Lander
will chant the services which will
follow the ritual of the United
Synagogues of America, with
which the Northwest Congrega-
tion is affiliated.
Last Saturday Robert Haidy,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Max N. Hai-
dy, celebrated his Bar Mitzvah.
Master Haidy, in addition to his
rendition of the Maphtir, also
chanted the Shachris and Musaf
services.

Neumann, Dr. Herzl's daughter,
and her husband, perished in
Theresienstadt, where they had
been deported in 1942, it was
learned here. Mrs. Neumann left
a number of personal effects a
manuscripts by Dr. Max M'or-
dau, before deportation.
Jews from all over Europe,
now in Vienna awaiting transfer
to Palestine, visit Dr. Herzl's
grave regularly. A special ser-
vice was conducted in the ceme-
tery.
Roughly 12,000 Jews, including
many recently liberated from
concentration camps, are now in
Vienna, which had a pre-war
Jewish population of 180,000.

PORT HURON
Rabbi Selig S. Auerbach, who
had served as Civilian Chaplain
to the Armed Forces during the
summer months, has returned to
Port Huron to conduct High Holi-
day services. The services, in He-
brew and English, will be held on
the two evenings and two days of
Rosh Hashonah.
Pupils of the Junior Depart-
ment of Mt. Sinai Sunday School
will participate in the evening
services.
Mt. Sinai Hebrew School has
reopened. The Sunday School will
open on Oct. 7.
