AIDS JEWS IN NAZI-HELD AREAS This is the Jew in Europe today— caught in a Nazi web of imprison. ment, starvation, torture, and fear. Al. lied armies are bringing him libera• lion; American Jews are bringing him the means to live. In cooperation with the War Refugee Board and the Inter. national Red Cross, the Joint Dis. tribution Committee is bringing food to' Jewish internees in labor and con• centration camps in German•occupied areas. Funds for these life•savini activities are raised in local communi ties throughout the country. Jewish Life on the College Campus (Continued from Page 11) sented a problem. More important- ly, Pesahch week diet requires a Jewish kitchen, a Jewish dining hall. Sabbath Eve services in a completely Jewish Schul atmos- phere would not only be tradition- al but also more satisfying reli- giously. At least this is the way the students themselves feel about it. A Hillel building would never degenerate into a Ghetto Center. There is no danger whatsoever of its becoming a Jewish Noah's Ark in the midst of an overwhelming Flood of Christian college life. The campus way of life operates against such a tendency. On the other hand, with the erection of a Hillel building, conducted in its own congenial atmosphere. Jew- ish student life will assume a greater solidity. It will take on more of the aspect of being-at- homeness. Interfaith Council An Interfaith Council does func- tion in this university. Its presi- dent is a Jewish co-ed. Last year the office was held by a Negress. And, significantly in these war- hysteria days, an American Ja- panese also serves on the Council. Shall we accept it as a sure sign of a progressive Jewish influence? On this particular campus an important instiution has come to life only last year: A Religious Embassy. It included in its en- tourage brilliant exponents of the three faiths, and also Buddhism. A Chinaman was among the dele- gates, all of whom were distrib- uted as house guests among the various fraternities and sororities; and the Chinese scholar was the house guest of a Jewish frater- nity. The formal convocations, the open forums, the more intimate seminars, were all intellectually stimulating. Yet more significant were the personal contacts be- tween "Ambassadors" and stu- dents, representing, as both groups did, all creeds, all races, all cul- tures. And all this on a common level, organized jointly by the three religious organizations; Ca- tholic, Protestant, and Jewish, all of which enjoy official status. How shall one describe this Jewish student life on the cam- pus in the simplest terms? That word is Kehillah, a Jewish Community life. The Jewish students become ha- bituated to a Jewish Community life as it is lived on the college campus for four years. And these students will carry this "'way of Jewish life" back with them after leaving college, into their home communities. They will play a de- termining role in shaping the Jewish life-to-come in our Ameri- can scene. Reich Pastor Calls All Germans Guilty LONDON (WNS) — l'a , tor Loechel, broadcasting over the Berlin radio, told the Genoa people that although the Ge tapo and the S.S. were ill( ma culprits in the killin g of nil lions of Jews, "the German peo- ple are also guilty for tolk rat- ing them." The pastor made the 1)1 . ∎ )ad- cast following a visit to Oswie- cim, where 1,000,000 .lows were killed. He said the humors a t Oswiecin surpassed "tile persccu- tion of early Christians, the tor- tures of the Middle Ages and even Dachau and 111aidatiek Pastor Loechel said he hoped the German ipeople will "wipe out this disgrace, which affects all of us."
