Senator Reynolds and His
Nationalist Party

By
ARCHIE IL GREENBERG
National Commander, Jewish
War Veterans of U. S.
The hot spotlight of publicity
is now beating down upon the
activities of ex-Senator Robert
R. Reynolds and his so-called
American Nationalist party and
its related American Nationalist
Committee. The Cleveland Press,
in an exclusive series of articles,
has revealed that one of Rey-
nolds' aides is none other than
Joe McWilliams, the anti-Semitic
"Joe McNazi" of Yorkville infa-
my, who was indicted by the gov-
ernment for sedition. The well-
documented newspaper expose has
done a good service to Cleve-
land ; it rid the city of Joe Mc-
Williams, alias Jack Williams,
and others of the solicitors for
the Nationalist Party. This is
good reading, a most encourag-
ing manifestation of the basic de-
cency of the United States, for it
indicates that forewarned, Amer-
ica is not prepared to accept a
fascism of the Reynolds-McWil-
liams variety.
It is well to review the ori-
gins and history of the American
Nationalist Party. The brainchild
of Senator Reynolds, its proposed
party program calls for organ-
ization "on the unit basis." It is
the ex-Senator's dream that in
every community of the United
States there will be organized

units consisting of ten people
only. This number is restricted
to ten for the reason that in a
unit of ten members only, every
member of that unit will be per-
sonally acquainted with his fel-
low unit members." Thus, by its
own definition, the Reynolds par-
ty would organize along the lines
of the early organization of the
Nazi party in Germany.
The organizer, Senator Rey-
nolds, is the same man who on
the floor of the U. S. Senate voted
against repealing the arms em-
bargo, against "lend-lease,"
against repeal of the Neutrality
law, and against the extension
of the draft law. He is the same
Senator Reynolds who, in 1938,
after returning from Europe said,
"The dictators are doing what is
best for their people. Hitler and
Mussolini have a date with des-

tiny; it is foolish to oppose them,
so why not play ball with them?"
It is the same Senator Reynolds
who, speaking on April 13, 1939,
in New York City, made a speech
at, which one of the honored
guests—the then Nazi Bund lead-
er Fritz Kuhn—said, "I like the
speech very well. I underline eve-
rything he (Reynolds) said."
Interviewed in Europe by Hit-
ler's own newspaper, the Vol-
kischer Beebachter, Reynolds is
quoted as saying: "What business
is it of ours, of the American
people, what form of government
Germany, Italy, Japan or any
other country has? Did the Ger-
man people really do anything to
the American people that we
should hate them for it? Why
should we stick our noses into
the affairs of other nations?"
Besides his association with
Joe McWilliams, Reynolds is a
friend and collaborator of Ger-
ald L. K. Smith, Gerald Winrod,
