Detroit Rabbis Hail Peace; See Dawn of New Era

Rabbi Glazer
Hails Dawn
Of New Era

Rabbi Franklin
Urges Fight for
Universal Peace

Rabbi, Temple Beth El

By Dr. Leo M. Franklin

Almighty and merciful God we
turn to Thee with full and grate-
ful hearts on this day of victory
and peace. After seemingly end-
less years of agony, brutality, and
bloodshed, the sound and fury of
destruction has been silenced. The
dawn of a new day of sanity and
hope is breaking upon the horizon
of mankind. Once again, with
Thy help, the threat or nameless
evils has succumbed to the power
of free, brave and resourceful
men. May these evils never rise
again to complete their work of
annihilation.
This long-anticipated and joy-
ous hour of redemption from the
horrors of war has lifted a heavy
burden of anxiety and fear from
our souls. Now we may look for-
ward with confidence to the safe
and speedy return of our loved
ones in the armed forces of the
nation. Comfort and sustain, 0
God, those families whose fathers,
sons and husbands have made the
supreme sacrifice • that we may
reach this day of victory. Be
Thou also with our wounded and
maimed veterans to bring them
boundless, healing courage and
confidence.
And finally, 0 God, may this
hour of liberation from the curse
of war renew within each one of
us a solemn determination to pre-
serve domestic and world peace.
May we dedicate ourselves to the
creation of a new spirit of unity
and brotherhood among the
peoples of the earth. Free our
souls from false pride and cor-
roding hatreds against our fel-
low men. May all mankind turn
to Thee as their common Father
and worship Thee in the holiness
of universal fellowship. As men
and nations plan the new and
better world of tomorrw may
they remember with the Psalm-
ists, "except the Lord build the
house, they labor in vain that
built it." Amen.

Cites Peace
Responsibilities

The end of the war brings
more responsibilities to each and
every one of us. Nations and in-
dividuals must seek to live with
each other in a spirit of brother-
hood and good will. Man has in-
vented the means to destroy him-
self utterly and unless he is able
to curb national and racial ha-
treds mankind will go to its
doom.
Let us thank God that we
have lived to see peace; that the
forces of righteousness have con-
quered the dark forces of evil.
Let us hope that the cessation of
hostilities between nations will be
an everlasting one.
