Plight of Jews Federation Tactics May
In Germany
Is Desperate Hurt Cause of Charity

LONDON (WNS)—Prof. Selig
Brodetsky, president of the Board
of Deputies of British Jews, de-
clared that the surviving Jews in
Germany and in the camps "are
living under conditions which
they cannot help comparing to
conditions under the Nazis,"
and that their position is so
alarming as to justify "the right
to say that never have Jews been
so neglected and forgotten."
Disclosing that the position of
the Jews in Germany is incon-
sistent with the Allied govern-
ment's announced intention of
treating Jews, irrespective of
nationality, as displaced United
Nations persons, Prof. Brodetsk
said that the Committee to Ai
the Jews of Germany, an organ-
ization comprising all major Bri-
tish Jewish organizations, had
submitted a memorandum to the
War and Foreign Offices de-
manding that special Jewish liai-
son officers be sent to camps in
Germany with the status similar
to that of the liaison officers of
the various United Nations gov-
ernments,
At the same time he revealed
that more than 200,000 Jewish
survivors are refusing to return
to the countries of their origin.
Until recently, he said, no
Jewish units were admitted to
Germany and there was no means
of ascertaining the condition of
the refugees and deportees de-
spite the fact that Joint Distribu-
tion Committee and the Central
British Fund for Jewish Relief
had been prepared to meet the
emergency.

British Parties
Back Zionist
Aims in Yishuv

LONDON — British political
parties last week pledged their
efforts to secure a "just settle-
ment" of the Palestine problem
and reiterated their stand against
all forms of anti-Semitism. The
Conservative, Liberal, Labor and
Independent Labor parties ex-
pressed their sympathy with Zion-
ist aims. The Communist Party
while declaring that it would bat-
tle anti-Semitism, however, at-
tacked Zionist aims.
Ralph Ashton, chairman of the
Conservative Party, asserted that
the solution of the Palestine prob-
lem was delayed because of the
war, but that now that the Euro-
pean conflict is ended, the new
government will study the Pales-
tine problem in the light of the
post-war situation. Ashton de-
clared that he will support a so-
lution of the problem which will
be just not only to the Jews and
Arabs but to the whole world.
Alec Wilkinson of the Labor
Party reiterated the stand of the
Laborites against the White Pa-
per and said, "It is necessary for

Trustees of Public Funds Also Serve on
Board of Firm Which Gets Subsidy

NEW YORK (WNS) — The long controversy in the
Zionist movement in America came to an end last week
when the American Zionist Emergency Council, meet-
ing in special session, voted to reorganize itself substan-
tially along the lines recently suggested by a specail peace

enterprise.

The business to which these trustees of your charity
funds have lent their backing, including the prestige of
their names and $20,000 in cash, is The Jewish News. Is
it fair for guardians of public funds, to be interested in a
business and to aid that enterprise with public money? Is
it fair for the Jewish News which prates of its "highest
ideals" to accept charity money?
These same trustees of public moneys, who are at the
same time on the board of directors of a private business,
voted a few days ago to continue "subsidizing" the Jew-
ish News with YOUR money.
This decision was made in the face of the offer by the
Detroit Jewish Chronicle that it would publish all Federa-
tion news and publicity and send a copy of the Chronicle
once a month to the entire list of donors to the Federa-
tion and the United Jewish Appeal FREE OF CHARGE.
The Chronicle offered to do for nothing that for which
the custodians of your charities have expended nearly
$20,000 with the Jewish News.

DR. ABBA HILLEL SILVER

Neither the Federation nor the Jewish News can give
any adequate answer regarding this "perversion" of
charity funds. In fact, for a month, they maintained
silence. Undoubtedly they will seek to excuse this "sub-
sidy" with weasel words that will befog the issue.

sponsored by the Detroit Section
of the American Jewish Con-

Harry M. Kaminer, chairman of
the book committee. Detroit con-

sent to the New York office of
the World Jewish Congress, and
from there to the devastated
Jewish communities of Europe
and North Africa.

during July and August, but will
start again on Sept. 1.
