Weizmann Sees
Jewish State In
Palestine Soon

LONDON (WNS)—"It
may take time to make
Palestine a Jewish coun-
try, but it will be done,"
it w a s declared by Dr.
Chaim Weizmann, leader
of the world Zionist move-
ment, at a dinner tender-
ed in his honor by Sir Si-
mon and Lady Parks.

CHALLENGES CHURCHILL

Asserting that there is no mer-
it to the contention that the es-
tabl'shment of a Jewish Com-
monwealth would be a deviation
from the objectives of the Bal-
four Declaration, the Zionist lead-
e• said that Jews are willing to
accept Churchill's White Paper
despite the fact that its provision
with respect to the absorptive Ca-
pa.ity of the country was a clear
departure from the Balfour Dec-
laration. "I s a y , he stressed,
"give me the right to create ab-
sorptivity and a Jewish state will
be ready within three to five
years.
Asserting that "while 36 new
settlements have sprung up re-
cently, one is amazed to find emp-
tiness in many parts at the same
time," he pointed out that at least
one-third of the 11,000,000 dun-
ams in the Negev—the arid south-
ern part of Palestine — could be
colonized to support 1,000,000
Jews. lie said he was tremendous-
ly impressed by Palestine during
his recent visit to that country.
Dr. Weitzman!' asserted that
the virus of anti-Semitism and
nazism was deep-rooted in Eu-
rope, even in such countries as
France and Holland;

"Jews cannot settle in a cem-
etery," he said. "We cannot
wait any longer; the blood of
millions cies to Heaven — if
justice has some meaning, this
voice will be heard."

EXAMPLE No. 3 (of Jewish News
"highest ideals of integrity") :

"Why Has the Jewish News Such Enormous Ad-
vertising Value?"
"Because . . . It is the Only Jewish Publication
that Reaches 95 percent of Detroit's Jewish Buying
Power . . . In addition to other Rich Michigan
Markets."

The above quotation is taken verbatim from the found-
ing issue of the Jewish News. It is self-evident to an
experienced newspaper man that the Jewish News could
have had but few paid subscribers when the above quo-
tation appeared in its columns.
Did they tell their readers and the advertisers of
Detroit that their claim that the Jewish News "is the
Only Jewish Publication that Reaches 95 percent of
Detroit's Jewish buying power" was based upon the
free copies it INTENDED to mail out?

Let us discuss the matter of the "Community Advis-
ory Committee." We might mention that the "highest-
ideals - of - integrity" - Jewish - News sent out a circular
just two weeks ago, and that a whole page thereof was
devoted to a large list of names of local Jewish men and
women. THAT "COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMIT-
TEE" (so-called) NEVER HELD A MEETING. We won-
der how many of those men and women were asked in
advance whether their names could be thus used.
Of course, that "Community Advisory Committee" is
"window dressing," and "window dressing" isn't fraud;
but taken together with their various other examples of
"ethics in journalism," can the use of a "Community
Advisory Committee" be categorized as evidence of
"highest ideals of integrity"?
See next week's Chronicle.

In an address bristling
with optimism and determi-
nation the Zionist leader
told the 500 prominent Brit-
ish Jews who attended the
function that he believed
"our present relations with
the mandatory power are of
a passing character" a n d
that "we will soon see the
blossoming of a J e wish
Detroit Soldier Asks
state."

Declaring that Britain "can be
bi•g only when it adheres to mor-
al principles, the sanctity of prom-
ices, sympathy and humanity,"
Dr. Weitzmann disclosed that he
has been seeking to convince the
British Government that it must
no longer keep the Jews of Pal-
estine in suspense and that a final
decision on the Palestine ques-
tion must be taken immediately.
He said the spirit of Palestine
Jewry was unconquerable and that
Palestine would never again be
an Arab country.

Pvt. Harry H, Goldberg, son of
Dr. and Mrs. Harry Goldberg of
the Belcrest, wrote his parents
from Germany, that he had met a
group of Polish Jewish boys who
had been freed from the Nazi hor-
ror camp of Buchenwald, and who
had lost their parents nd the rest
of their family.
In his letter, which was read at
the Hadassah Honor Roll rally
last week, Pvt. Goldberg begged
his parents to adopt one of these
boys, who is 13, as his brother.
He declared that these Jewish
orphans, appeared as bright as
Quiz kids. Although they had un-
dergone untold hardships, yet
they were still full of life, hope
and laughter. The young boy
whom he wished for his brother,
he described as the most unusual
of the group, the brightest and
most intelligent.
The day after he had met these
lads Pvt. Goldberg went back to
Buchenwald but the orphans had
been moved. He and his parents
are trying to locate them. The
Goldbergs are willing to adopt
this orphan boy.

Pioneer Women Mourn
Death of Golomb

The Pioneer Women's Organ'.
xation mourns the passing of
Eliahu Golomb, Palestine labor
leader and member of the execu-
tive of the Histadrut who died in
Tel Aviv on June 11.
In a statement issued on behalf
of the national executive, Miss
Dvorah Rothboard, national secre-
tary of Pioneer Women, whose
sister organization in Palestine is
en integral part of the Histadrut
(Jewish Federation of Labor) de-
clared that Eliahu Golomb "had
during his lifetime become a leg-
end in Palestine."

Because of the July 4th
Holiday, the Detroit Jewish
Chronicle will go to press
earlier this week. Copy must
