Is Awakened to Peril Any American who has hatred in his heart, especially religious mr racial hatred, is following in t h e footsteps of Hitler and is a Nazi at heart. This was the message that Malcolm W. Bin- ga y, editorial director of the Detroit Free Press, conveyed to a n audience of nearly 1,000 which packed the Shaarey Zedek Social Hall Wednesday night. Mr. Bingay spoke at a bond rally held under the auspices of the Shaarey Zedek Men's Club. Mr. Bingay declared that there is at present a rising tide of bigotry and religious and racial hatred in America. He called this tide nascent Nazism. He declared it is being fanned by rabble rovers who are getting money f ro n t foolish businessmen who think they need "protection". The speaker warned that any- one who countenances abuses in government, who is resigned to being ruled by corrupt political bosses, who shrugs his shoulders when he sees minorities wronged, is paving the way for Nazism. Our Brother's Keeper racial hatred focused especially on the "Jews; gangster t'uctics and political rabble rousing. He saw the counterparts in this country in the Ku Klux Klan, the rabble rousers and corrupt political bosses. Describing the horrors of the Buchenwald and Dachau death camps, Mr. Bingay declared that at Buchenwald 6,000 inmates died each month and at Dachau, 10,000. He declared that Ameri- can soldiers were so aroused by th e horrors of Dachau that they wept as they hunted out and killed every SS guard they could Lind. "We are our brothers' keep- ers," declared Mr. Bingay. "We must have a sense of individual responsibility. There is no sense of personal guilt in Germany, and that is the root of Nazism. "1 don't, think Nazism is go- ing• to come here. We'll be aroused in time as to what racial and religious hatred really means. The veterans have seen th e German horror camps. They know what it means. They are the hope of America."
