NEW YORK.—The world con-
ference of the Federation of
Polish Jews, at its closing meet-
ing last week in New York, voted
to open a campaign for $5,000,
000 to rehabilitate and recon-
struct the Jewish community in
Poland.
The conference also endorsed
the establishment of a Jewish
Homeland in Palestine.
Other resolutions asked that
the property seized by the Nazis
be returned to Jews in Poland
and that the Polish government
allow Polish Jews who wish to
emigrate to Palestine to take
along their property.
The conference elected a world
executive committee of 30, 15
from the U. S., and also estab-
lished a world council of Polish
Jewry which is to consist of 200
delegates, 70 of them from
America.

Ellmann Declines

James I. Ellmann, president of
the Council since October, 1941,
was offered renomination for of-
fice but declined, urging that
community offices and responsi-
bilities should be shared widely.
As retiring president, Mr. Ell-
mann will continue to serve as
a member of the executive com-
mittee for the next three years.
