3 Jewish Youths Killed
On Eve of V-E Day

Three Detroit Jewish youths
have been listed as killed in the
last days of the war in Europe.
The news of the death of Pfc.
Albert Karbelnick in Germany
was received on V-E Day by his
mother, Mrs. Libby Weinzweig,
10002 Broadstreet.

KILLED
Pfc. Albert Karbelnick, 21, son

of Mrs. Libby Weinzweig, report-
ed killed April 22 in Germany;
20 months in the army, eight
months overseas, served with Sev-
enth Army. Central High gradu-
ate, attended Wayne U; survived
by his mother, and brother,
George, awaiting induction.
Pvt. Edward Schwartz, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schwartz,
2972 Rochester, reported killed
April 24 in Germany.

54,000 Jews who resided in Sa-
lonika before the war, only 1,200
survived the German occupation,
it was disclosed by the Greek
Minister of Finance. More than
500 of the survivors are home-
less and dependent on charity.

Bnai David Holds
Graduation Rites

, Graduation exercises of the
Sunday School of Congregation
Bnai David were combined with
dedication services on Sunday,
May 27.
The program was featured by
the rendition Of several musical
selections by the graduates, spe-
cially arranged by Cantor Abra-
ham Gartenhaus of Bnai David.
Cantor Gartenhaus also sang
modim and the threefold blessings
of Israel.
Diplomas were issued to the
graduates by Joseph Block, presi-
dent of Bnai David, and Rabbi
Joshua Sperka preached the ser-
mon. Mrs. Evelyn Cohen assisted
at the piano.

Temple Israel Men
Plan Summer Activity

The Men's Club of Temple Is-
rael plans to continue activities
throughout the summer. Meet-
ings of the board have been
planned for June, July and Au-
gust. An outdoor picnic and a
combined business and social
meeting with the Sisterhood are
scheduled during the summer.
Earl Freshman, member of the
board of directors, has suggested
a series of concerts, to bring in
nationally known artists to be
sponsored by the combined
groups of the Temple with the
proceeds to go to the building
of the Temple.
The Men's Club is planning to
expand youth work, including
Boy Scout Work and a Cub pack
organization for the fall.
