Jewish University Planned;
Yeshiva College Seeks 5 Million

NEW YORK.—Plans for the.
expansion of Yeshiva College
into the first Jewish university
in America and the launching
of a $5,000,000 endowment and
expansion drive to make it pos-
sible, have been announced by
Dr. Samuel Belkin of the Ye-
shiva.
New graduate and undergrad-
uate divisions are to be added
which will perm:c an increase in
student enrollment to accommo-
date applicants from all parts of
the world, Dr. Belkin asserted.
At present, Yeshiva College in-
cludes five interrelated schools,
with an enrollment of almost
1,000 students and 80 teachers,
providing a fully rounded cur-
riculum in Jewish and secular
studies. The five schools are
housed in a $2,500,000 structure
at Amsterdam Ave. and 186th
St., New York City. They are:
Yeshiva College, Rabbi Isaac El-
chanan Theological Seminary,
Bernard Revel Graduate School,
Teachers Institute, and Talmudi-
cal Academy.
Dr. Belkin said that the col
• lege is planning to expand on
the graduate level by developing
a graduate school of Commu-
nity Administration and Social
Research, a graduate school of
Education, and a School for
Adult Education. In addition, a
summer school for Higher Jewish
Education and Community Lead-
ership is to open this summer.
The plan further recommends
that the present Teachers Insti-
tute be enlarged into a Teachers
College offering Bachelor's de-
grees in Education and Hebrew
Literature.
The Rabbi Isaac Elchanan The-
ological Seminary (Yeshiva) was

tering state, and to take other
action in conformity with the
trusteeship arrangements."
The Arabs sought to eliminate
the word "peoples" from the
trusteeship clause, thus Pales-
tine would have been considered
as a state, giving the Arabs a
great advantage.
Trusteeship arrangements witn
respect to Palestine would, how-
ever, have to be made with the
consent of Great Britain, the
present holder of the Palestine
mandate.

pare selected students for the
Jewish ministry. In 1915, it ab-
sorbed the Yeshivat Eitz Chaim,
oldest Yeshiva on the American
continent founded in 1886.
In the same year, the Talmudi-
cal Academy, the first high school
under Jewish auspices, was estab-
lished. In 1921, the Teachers In-
stitute also became an integral
part of the institution. In 1928,
the charter of the Yeshiva was
amended and the first college of
Liberal Arts and Sciences under
Jewish auspices was opened. In
1937, the Graduate School was
organized.

HOW MUCH TO MOVE
A WAR ?

Lt. Willner, Listed
As Dead, Comes Home
To Birthday Party

Lt. Edward A. Willner, 25,
husband of Lillian, 2646 Tuxedo,
returned home this week after
he had long been given up for
dead. He unexpectedly appeared
at the door of his home and
gave his wife and relatives the
most pleasant surprise of their
lives. His family gave him a big
birthday party, for he had ap-
peared on the eve of his birth-
day.
The war depai talent was so
sure Lt. Willner was dead that
they wanted to pay the insurance
to his wife.
"The army wanted me to sign
his insurance claim," said Mrs.
Willner, "but I didn't. I never
gave up hope that Edward would
come home safe and sound. It's
wonderful to know I was right."
Lt. Willner, a fighter pilot in
the Burma-India area, was shot
down by a Jap Zero in Novem-
ber. 1943. He was liberated from
a Rangoon prison by the British.
Lt. Willner enlisted in the air
forces in October, 1941, and went
overseas in July, 1943. He is
now enroute to California.

A

we can, we'll bring to bear
on the Japs all the additional might
we've been using against Germany.
What will it cost, this MovingDay of War?
Estimate it in these terms: The job of
moving millions of men from one front to
another. Thousands of ships to carry the
supplies of battle. Swarms of new-type air-
craft to blast the path into enemy territory.
You can get an idea of the cost from the
fact that Uncle Sam needs 7
billions from us in the mighty

Does Life Insurance
Give Good Value?

"Good value" to most of us
means "getting our money's
worth." These days particularly,
each dollar spent must contrib-
ute substantially to the family's
welfare.

But the family budget has its
limitations—some things we can-
not afford to buy; other things
we cannot afford to do without.

In planning for the future, life
insurance is as necessary as food,
clothing and shelter. The Great-
West Life can provide you with
a policy designed to suit your
particular needs. Full details will
be given without obligation.
