At Shaarey Zedek
Shaarey Zedek Sisterhood will
wind up the season's activities
with a strawberry festival in the
social hall on Monday, May 28
Hospitality arrangements are in
charge of Mrs. Louis Seiton.
The annual election of officers
and directors will take place,
followed by an elaborate musical
program by the Music Study Club
Choral Group. Under the direc-
tion of Charles Frederick Morse,
conductor, the following numbers

(lay Religious School will take
place in the banquet hall on Sun-
day, June 3.

The North Woodward Branch
of the Jewish Women's European
Welfare Organization will meet
at the home of Mrs. Aaron
Green, 2495 Taylor, at 12:30
p. m. Tuesday, May 22, to make
final arrangements for the 12th
annual shower, scheduled for
June 13, at Bnai Moshe Hall.
The public is invited to attend
the shower, as the proceeds will
be utilized for the benefit of
clothing the 350 orphan girls
housed in the General Israel
Home in Palestine.
A luncheon will be served and
games will be featured for the
afternoon. Mrs. Aaron Green
and Mrs. H. Slatkin have been
added to the hostess list.
The committee in charge con-
sists of Mrs. J. Zuckerman, chair-
man, Mrs. A. Kurzmann, co-
chairman, Mrs. J. Kaplan, treas-
urer, Mrs. R. B. Newman, Mrs.
F.Krivetsky and Mrs M. Fish-
man. Mrs. E. Weissman is presi-
dent.
The organization has planted
50 trees in the grove in the For-
est of Freedom for the late
Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Sabbath League's
Annual Meeting
Set for Wednesday
The Women's League for Sab-
bath Observance will hold its an-
nual meeting at 12.30 Wednes-
day, at the Congregation Bnai
David, Elmhurst and 14th, be-
ginning with a dessert luncheon.
Mrs. Joshua Sperka will give
a report on the year's activities,
and election of officers will fol-
low.
On the program will be a dra-
matic pageant entitled "The Pa-
geant of the Festivals," written
by Mrs. Joshua Sperka. Taking
part in the pageant will be Mes-
dames D. J. Cohen, B. Leach, I.
Zeff, H. Pinsky, A Gealer and
M. A. Winston.
The guest speaker will be Rab-
bi Eli Greenbaum of New York
City, at present on the staff of
the Yeshivath Beth Yehudah.
At a meeting of representa-
tives of women's organizations
sponsored by the Rabbinical
Council of Detroit and the Sab-
bath League, a large group of
representatives went on record
favoring the incorporating of a
program of Sabbath observance
into their own program of activi-
ties.
Plans and details are now be-
ing completed to bring this pro-
gram into active realization. All
women, members and friends of
the League are urged to attend
the annual meeting.

Menashe Skulnick
In "Good News"
Here This Sunday
Menashe Skulnick, and a cast
of noted New York Yiddish ac-
tors will apiaear this Sunday at
the Scottish Rite Auditorium of
the Masonic Temple at a matinee
and evening performance of the
Yiddish musical comedy "Good
News".
The Rumshinsky and Friedman
play is Skulnick's latest success
and has been running in New
York for an entire season. Mr.
Skulnick is a well known radio
star, acting the part of Mr. Co-
hen in Abie's Irish Rose and
Uncle David in the Goldberg se-
ries. Appearing with him will be
Yetta Zwerdling, Anna Teitel-
baum and Max Rosenblatt. This
will be Mr. Skulnick's first per-
formance here in five years.

the rabbi for inspiring the In-

held last month:

lution, to send a delegation to
the Colonial Secretary, request-
ing Palestine certificates for

concentration camps outside of
the regular immigration sched-
ule, proposed by Mrs. Seiff,

ist Federation of Britain, was
unanimously adopted.
It was reported that member-
ship in the Women's Zionist or-
ganization now numbers 8,000,
or a four-fold increase since the

V-E day services were held here
in the Rothschild Synagogue
with Grand Rabbi Julian Weil
officiating. Many civil and mili-
tary dignitaries attended, with
Rene Mayer, Minister of Public
Works, representing the French
Government.
The Rome radio reported that
a thanksgiving service was held
in the Great Synagogue. Jewish
soldiers of the Allied and Italian
armies attended.
CZECHOSLOVAKIA
WITH THE U. S. 4TH AR-
MORED DIVISION IN CZECHO-
SLOVAKIA (WNS).—V-E day
services were held in one of the
few remaining synagogues in Eu-
rope, in the town of Horasdovice,
by Capt. Emanuel Schenck of New
York. Rabbi Schenk, who holds a
Bronze Star for gallantry, found
in the rear of an obscure court-
yard an undamaged synagogue
which once served the 50 Jewish
families wro lived here.
Of these 50 families, one sur-
vivor remains, Jacob Levy, a for-
mer butcher who has three chil-
dren living in Chicago.

LONDON (WNS).—The fash-
ionable West End section of Lon-
don resounded to the chanting
of traditional Jewish prayers
when an improvised V-E day
service was held by American
Jewish soldiers and recently re-
leased Polish Jewish war pris-
oners. The two groups met by
chance outside the Red Cross
Rainbow Club in Piccadilly and
decided to mark the event by
prayers. Passing British Jewish
soldiers joined them.
