Dinner at Center

The Council of Orthodox Rab-
bis (Merkaz) has asked all con-
gregations to aid the Vaad
Hoezra drive, which is seeking
to raise $25,000 in Detroit for
overseas relief of Jewish refu-
gees. Jacob Soberman is treas-
urer and funds can be sent di-
rectly to him at 8675 12th St.
The Rabbinical Council has or-
ganized various programs to
strengthen the practice of tradi-
tional Judaism in Detroit. In con-
junction with Sabbath observance
delegates from 30 Jewish wom-
en's groups conferred with the
Merkaz May 8 and pledged their
efforts to a campaign to close
Jewish stores on Saturday and
to refrain from shopping on that
clay.
All orthodox synagogues are
members of the Merkaz. A com-
mittee of laymen has been or-
ganized to sponsor a kosher res-
taurant. The Council of Rabbis
and the officers of the syna-
gogues will meet together four
times a year.
Some of the functions of the
rabbinical council include super-
vision over Jewish butcher shops,
slaughter houses, Sabbath ob-
servance, purity of family life,
burial procedure and raising the
standards of Bar Mitzvah and
Kaddish rituals.

"The Five Migals", and their
meanings will be the subject to
be taken up by the various

Survive in Holland

PARIS (WNS).—Of the ap-
proximately 166,000 Jews who
lived in Holland before the war,
only 20,000 have survived the
Nazi occupation.
Amsterdam, with a Jewish
population of 10,000 is now the
largest Jewish community in
Holland. During the past few
weeks approximately 6,000 Jews
returned to Amsterdam from
concentration camps in Germany
while about 4,000 returned from
hiding places.
Jewish leaders in Holland are
said to believe that several thou-
sand Jewish survivors may still
be found. The rest are reported
to have perished in Polish death
camps.

Gene Fenby and his "Singing
Swing" Orchestra will furnish
the music for the 24th Holiday
Hop presented by the Jewish
Community Center in the Main
Auditorium at 9 p. m. this Sun-
day. Sally Romine, vocalist, will
