CLIFTON AVENUE - CINCINNATI 20, 01110 Bay City Soldier Maurice Schwartz Stars in Yiddish Passover "Three Generations" at Wilson Sunday Attends Rites in Germany Probably Pfc. Charles Anth- ony's most thrilling experience overseas was attendance at a Passover service at a Jewish temple in Germany. This temple, Pfc. Anthony has written his parents, 5Ir. and Mrs. II. F. Anthony, 255 N. Madison Ave., Bay City, has been ruined by the Nazis but was in good enough condition for celebration of the Passover by five Amer- ican Jewish soldiers. Said Pfc. Anthony : "The tem- ple was completely wrecked ex- cept for the four walls. The interior had been completely tak- en out by the Germans. "Here is how it happened: As we entered this town soon after our troops captured it, one of our officers, a Jewish boy, hap- pened to see the temple as he went past. Hebrew writing was above the door, but that was all. So he spread the word to another Jewish officer who asked me to round up all the boys around headquarters that I could and he would conduct a simple ser- vice. It was to be complete with wine but no matzos. In the end only five people could attend, as we were busy at the time, but as we went into the temple we knew it was at great expe- rience."
