a re perfectly conscious of the
fact that they are rehearsing a
great historic experience in the
life story of Israel.
But they are equally aware of
the dynamic truth that they are
also participating in a ceremony
which has meant so much to the
Christian story, and which is re-
flected in the words and imag-
ery of their Scriptures. The
terms Passover, Paschal lamb,
and sacrifice are seen in a new
frame of reference beyond the
limited denominational connota-
tion in traditional Christian theo-
logy.
What is perhaps most signifi-
cant, however, is their under-
standing of Passover as the great
festival of human freedom and
individual liberty. No participant
in the Seder service, whether
Jew or Christian, can help but
be impressed by the vibrant truth
JERUSALEM (WNS)—Jewish
refugees from Poland, Lithuania
and Latvia who are now in Uz-
bekistan have been notified by
the Soviet authorities to prepare
for repatriation to their former
homEt. according to cables re-
ceived by relatives of the refu-
gees. The cable, sent from Tash-
kent, disclose that the Soviet
order stated that the repatriation
of the refugees will take place
in the very near future.
There are between 150,00(1 and
200,000 Polish Jews in Uzbeki-
stan who may be repatriated to
Poland. The number of Baltic
Jews is comparatively small, since
few succeeded in escaping into
Russia prior to the German oc-
cupation. It is assumed here that
these Polish Jews who are con-
sidered Soviet citizens because
they were born in Polish terri-
tory now claimed by Russia will
not be included among the re-
patriates.

the inheritance of all mankind.
The significance of the Hillel
Interfaith Seder can perhaps best
be epitomized in the remarks
made at the close of the cere-
mony one year by a distinguish-
ed campus minister of religion,
"Rabbi," he commented, turning
to the Hillel director, "tonight
has given me not only an un-
usual insight into the teachings
of Israel, but a broader and
deeper understanding of my own
faith as a Christian. Above all,
I can now understand more
clearly why you picture Judaism
as a way of life and as the cul-
ture of a people. The blending
of moods and themes in the
Haggadah has been a revelation
to me; the transitions from the
serious to the light, from the
historical to the contemporary
and from the national to the
universal and a source of end-
less wonder and sincere appre-
ciation. We are indeed indebted
to you at Hillel for a rediscov-
ery of Judaism and for a deeper
appreciation of the origins of
Christian tradition."
The Interfaith Seder at Ohio
State is a modest project on a
large and teeming campus. But
properly evaluated it is a sym-
bol of the spirit of cooperation
which young people can and are
developing in a world of grow-
ing tensions. It is another evi-
dence of the fortress of under-
standing which the Bnai .Brith
Hillel Foundations are today
erecting on over 120 campuses
in America and Canada. The
lights may have gone out in
European academic life, but the
torch of interfaith cooperation is
still shining brightly on the
American campus.
