Temple Israel Sons
To Debate Cleveland

NEW YORK.—A meeting of
representatives of Jewish Ortho-
dox Congregations, Synagogues
and Societies throughout the
New York area under the aus-
pices of the Agudas Israel of
America and Agudas Israel Youth
Council, national organization of
Orthodox Jewry, adopted a reso-
lution protestin g against "the ir-
responsible attitude of the Jew-
ish Agency for Palestine in mat-
ters affecting the law and spirit
of Orthodox Jewish religion".
The meeting charged that sev-
eral thousand Jewish refugee
Jewish children from Nazi-Europe

were placed in alleged anti-reli-
gious settlements and educational
institutions, "under the super-
vision of the leftist and pro-
communistic party Hashomer
Hatzair". The meeting declared
that in these colonies the teach-
ing and practice of religion is
forbidden.
The meeting warned the lead-
ers of the Jewish Agency for
Palestine that unless they accede
immediately to, the demand of
religious education, the Agudas
Israel will demand the annulment
of the political privileges of the
Jewish Agency to speak in be-
half of the Jewish people.

NEW YORK (WNS) — With
the adoption last week of reso-
lutions by the states of Michigan
and Tennessee advocating the
opening of Palestine to unre-
stricted Jewish immigration and
colonization in Palestine, the
American Zionist Emergency
Council, announced that 22
states, including 66 per cent of
the population of the United
States, have demonstrated their
favor of reconstituting Palestine
as it free, democratic Jewish
Commonwealth.
In the light of the Big Three
Conference at Yalta, and disclos-
ure of President Roosevelt's sub-
sequent meetings both with Prime
Minister Churchill and Arab
leaders, this expression of senti-
ment by representatives of a
majority of the American people
is of great importance, the Coun-
cil asserted.
Rep. Jack Ellstein, Detroit
Democrat, presented the Mich-
igan resolution which urges "that
the United States should take
appropriate measures to the end
that Palestine should be opened
for free immigration and unre-
stricted colonization so that the
Jewish people may rebuild their
ancestral homeland its a free and
democratic Jewish Common-
wealth."
Other states which have pre-
viously adopted similar resolu-
tions are .Alabama, California,
Colorado, Connecticut, Florida,
Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana,
Maryland, Massachusetts, Misso-
uri, New Jersey, New York, Pen-
nsylvania, Rhode Island, South
Carolina, Texas, Virginia and
Washington.

Rabbi Isaac Stollman, chairman
of the Daf Yomi of Detroit, an-
nounces that completion exer-
cises of the Gamorrah Chulin will
take place at 9 p. m. this Satur-
day at the Yeshivah Chachmey
Lublin, Linwood at Elmhurst.
The institution of the Daf
Yomi (the study of two pages
of gamorrah daily) was found-
ed by the great Gaon, the late
Rabbi Meyer Shapiro, dean and
founder of the Yeshivah Chach-
mey Lublin. The Daf Yomi be-
came popular, particularly among
Polish Jewry.
Two years ago, Rabbi Stoll-
man established the Daf Yomi
in Detroit.
The prograM will include the
renditimis of the dissertations in
Halacha by the rabbis and heads
of the Yeshivah. A M'Lave Mal-
cha is being prepared by the
Ladies Auxiliary of the Yeshi-
vath Chachmey Lublin. All are
invited to attend. There will be
no solicitation of funds.

TEL AVIV (Palcor)—Moshe
Shertok, chief of the Political
Department of the Jewish Agen-
cy, revealed that the Jewish
Agency's request for an increase
of the monthly quota of 1,500
Palestinian entry certificates, has
been refused by the authorities,
with the Government merely
agreeing to permit a 2,000
monthly maximum, in the event
the 1,500 quota is not filled in
any preceding month.
Only 1,000 are expected to
leave Romania in the near future
because this represented the re-
mainder of the certificates allo-
cated for that country from the
last 10,300 certificates under the
White Paper.
The Palestine Government ap-
proved certificates for 180 Chal-
utzim from Bulgaria, and this
would be a test whether Bul-
gania, under the pressure of lo-
cal Jewish Communists, had clos-
ed its exits for Jews seeking to
emigrate to Palestine.
No news has yet arrived from
Italy concerning the expected
departure of 900 immigrants. A
group of 250 children and 50
adults are expected to leave
France soon for Palestine. A
party of 300 Yemenite Jews is
enroute from Anen to Pales-
tine.

MEXICO CITY (WNS) — The
postwar immigration problem of
the Jews in Europe will be dis-
cussed at the Inter-American
Conference on Problems of War
and Peace now in session here,
it was disclosed by a member
of the Mexican delegation.
Referring to the problem of
postwar immigration into the
North and South American coun-
tries, the Mexican delegate de-
clared:
"There must be no racial

obstacles to immigration in
any of the American coun-
tries, and legislation barring
Jews must
be abrogated.
Countries lik e Brazil and Mex-
ico are able to absorb tens
of thousands of immigrants in
new industries and agricul-
ture."

FINISHING TOUCH:
No doubt you recall that story
of the Christmas Eve mass held
on a Pacific island at which a
Marine—we. believe it was Bar-
ney Ross—provided organ music
by playing tple only song he
knew, "Yiddishe Mama" . .
Now Mitchell tells us that a fit-
ting tag-lnie to that story has
been provided by Monsignor Ful-
ton J. Sheen, who'points out that
since the mother of Jesus was a
Jewess the song was most appro-
priate.
