Urge Palestine
Strike Against
White Paper

JERUSALEM (WNS) — The
Jewish National Council last week
heard demands that a general
strike be called in Palestine, if
necessary, to impress the Brit-
ish Government with the need
of opening the doors of Pales-
tine to Jewish immigration.
With the number of immigra-
tion certificates available under
the terms of the British White
Paper rapidly declining, the
meeting devoted itself to the
question of securing the admis-
sion of more Jews from Europe
to Palestine.
It was reported that a dele-
gation had met with the High
Commissioner for Palestine, ap-
pealing for his intervention in
securing the opening of Pales-
tine to the remnants of Euro-
pean Jewry.

$6,400,000 Palestine
Health Budget

JERUSALEM (Palcor) — The
Palestine Government contrib-
utes only $120,000 toward Jew-
ish Palestines medical aid bud-
get of $6,400,000, the Vaad
Leumi, Jewish Palestine's Na-
tional Council, revealed.
The Vaad Leumi demanded
that the Government treat as
public institutions those hospit-
als and health institutions which
are administered by Jewish pub-
lic bodies. The Vaad Leumi pro-
poses that the Government de-
termine the hospital require-
ments of the Jewish population.
The Vaad Leumi adopted a
budget of $1,360,000 for educa-
tion, to which the Jewish Agency
was urged to contribute $80,000,
instead of $300,000 which the
Agency had contributed last
year. The Vaad Letimi demand-
ed a Government grant of $568,-
000.
