LONDON (Palcor)
Most
reports from Cairo and London
agree that Palestine is to be
assigned as a Jewish state, but
some contend that' it will be an
entirely independent Jewish
state, while others maintain that
it is to be federated with a
Christian Lebanese state into a
Jewish-Christian state. Reports
which do not mention the link
with Lebanon, say that the Pal-
estine Jewish state will include
the Negev, and exclude "certain
Arab districts," and that Jeru-
salem will be internationalized.
The reports linking Lebanon to
Palestine, indicate that the dis-
tricts of Nablus and Jenin are
the only ones to be severed from
the Jewish state.
"Whether Palestine remains
mandated 'territory or becomes
an independent state," the Man-
chester Guardian states," it will
have considerable bearing on the
security of the Middle East.
That the Jewish National Home
is a reality and is going to in-
crease in strength is incontest-
able. Any withdrawal from this
conception is impossible, both
politically and in view of Brit-
ain's great humanitarian com-
mitments. The problem of the
Arab states today is not how to
limit the future 'of Palestine as
a Jewish National Home, but how
to settle it happily within a pro-
gressive community of nations in
the Middle East."

Detroit Jewry can be proud
of its record of giving during
the past year and this record is
likely to be surpassed during
1945. Here are sonic of the
things Detroit Jewish benefac-
tions have accomplished:
1. More than $2,000,000 has
been raised to build a hospital
(thus bringing to reality a dream
of half a century).
2. Cleared the debts of the
following synagogues so that they
have no mortgage encumbrances:
Shaarey Zedek, Bnai Moshe, Bnai
David, Beth Yehudah and Bnai
Jacob. Raised funds to build an
edifice for Temple Israel and for
the Northwest Synagogue and
Center after the war.
3. Raised unprecedented sums
for overseas relief, for Palestine
and for local charities.
4. Built up two fine Yeshivahs
and parochial schools, Yeshivath
Beth Yehudah and Yeshivatn
Chachmey Lublin and raised the
pay of teachers and the stand-
ards in . the United Hebrew
Schools and the Yiddish schools.
and in addition financed a sur-
vey of the educational and rec-
reational needs of the Jewish
community.
5. Provided recreational facili-
ties for thousands of boys and
girls and young men and women
in the Detroit Jewish Center,
and in the establishment of a
branch center on Twelfth St. and
in the Northwest section.
6. Supported the Jewish Com-
munity Council in its fight against
racial intolerance and discrimina-
tion and in its efforts to coor-
dinate the Jewish organizations
in the Detroit area.
Detroit Jewry is now engaged
in, or has successfully concluded,
a campaign for $125,000 for the
Histadrut; a drive for $40,000
to aid Polish Jewry; the drive
for $10,000 for the Black Book;
Moos Chitim, aid for Denver and
Los Angeles sanitariums; aid for
Palestine Yeshivahs, the Merkaz
and the various philanthropies
sponsored by lodges and lands-
manshaf ten.
