Rabbi Fischman and Ben Gurion of Better Understanding Be-
of the Jewish Agency for Pales-
tine, is urged by the Mizrachi
Organization of America, to set-
tle the dispute in the ranks of
American Zionism, caused by the
ouster of Dr. Abba Hillel Silver
as co-chairman of the Zionist
Emergency Council.
The Mizrachi Organization cas-
tigates the Council for its action
and attacks Poalei Zion. The
Mizrachi statement issued this
week declares:
"Before Dr. Silver took over
official political leadership, chaos
reigned — so great a confusion
that Dr. Chaim Weizmann, then
in America, expressed his pro-
found chagrin over the situa-
tion. Political Zionism then had
no recognition in government
circles, and wherever Dr. Weiz-
mann turned he found a wall of
steel facing him.
Militant Action
"Dr. Silver, on the urging of
Dr. Weizmann, instituted a mili-
tant course of action which for
the first time in the history of
American Judaism placed Zion-
ism in the political forefront.
"Mizrachi views the conflict
from a political and moral view-
point. We cannot tolerate a sit-
uation where a responsible Zion-
ist leader, on his own initiative,
sends a telegram to the Secre-
tary of State approving defer-
ment of the Palestine resolution.
And nonetheless we did not, be-
cause of this error, demand that
he be deposed ; and we would
have combated all efforts to ehm-
inate him from leadership.
From this viewpoint, Mizrachi
can certainly not permit that a
Zionist leader be penalized for
the "sin" of conducting a proud,

NEW YORK—President Roos-
evelt, on the eve of his prospec-
tive meeting with Prime Minis-
ter Churchill and Premier Stalin,
was urged to take cognizance
of the resolutions recently passed
by the World Jewish Congress
and to bring them to the atten-
tion of the Allied leaders.
Dr. Stephen S. Wise, presi-
dent of the World Jewih Con-
gress and the American Jewish
Congress, has written President
Roosevelt that the eyes of world
Jewry will be focused hopefully
toward the next meeting of the
Allied statesmen.
The resolutions particularly re-
fer to Palestine and to an inter-
national bill of rights.

CAIRO (\VNS) — Emphaim
Ben-Zuni and Eliahu Khakim, the
two young Palestinian Jews who
were sentenced to death last week
by a military court here on the
charge of assassinating Lord
Moyne, have been informed that
their petitions for clemency had
been denied by the Mufti.
A mercy petition addressed to
King George VI and Prime Min-
ister Churchill was the last hope
of life for the two young men.
Under Egyptian jurisprudence a
conviction by a military court is
not appealable.
