The above check for $10,000.00 was sent as Detroit's first contribution toward the campaign for
250,000 packages that the American Federation of Polish Jews is carrying on all over the country.
In commenting on the success of the campaign so far, Henry Abramovitz, chairman of the local
campaign, said: "The local organizations are responding very satisfactorily toward the campaign."
However, he urges that those who have not yet responded should do so at once, as the need is great,
and that if the remnants of Polish Jewry are to be helped before real winter sets in, food and medi-
cine must be sent immediately.
A meeting of the Committee will be held at the office of the Federation at 9124 LinwootAve.
Dec. 10 at 11 a. m., and all those who have moneys to turn in are requested to do so at the meeting.

Selections from Handel's Ora-
torio "Judas Maccabeus" will
feature the Sabbath Eve Services
of Temple Israel next Friday
night, Dec. 8. The service will
he held in the auditorium of the
Detroit Institute of Arts. The
choir of Temple Israel, under the
direction of Dan Frohman, will
sing "See the Conquering Hero
Come." Cantor Robert S. Tul-
man will render the solos "Sound
an Alarum" asd "Arm, Arm, ye
Brave." Karl W. Haas, the organ-
ist, will render interludes from
and Oratorio.
The "Maccabeus" will be sung
in anticipation of the Feast of
Chanukah, which begins Sunday
night, Dec. 10, and which com-
memorates the rededication of the
Temple of Zion after its recon-
quest from Antiochus the Mad
by Judas Maccabeus.
Rabbi Leon Fram will preach
on the theme "The Maccabeans
of Today."
Children as well as adults are
invited to attend this service.
The Sisterhood of Temple Israel
will serve Chanukah refreshments
at the social hour following the
service.
The Detroit Symphony Orches-
tra is to be host to Carroll
Glenn, America's leading woman
violinist, at the Thursday Sub-
scription Concert, Dec. 7. This
young artist, American born and
trained, is the first and only
person to win the four major
prizes offered in open competi-
tion to promising musicians in
the United States-they are the
Naumburg Foundation, Town
Hall Endowment Series, $1,000
prize of the National Federation
of Music Clubs, and the Schu-
bert Memorial Awards.
Miss Glenn was born and lived
in Chester, S. C., until she was
11, then took up her studies
with Edouard Dethier of the
Juilliard School in New York;
She is the bride of Staff Sgt
Eugene List, also a graduate of
Juilliard and one of the moat
promising pianists to appear be-
fore the public in decades.
A scheduling of any Beethoven
Symphony by Karl Krueger is
welcome news to his audiences
and his anouncement of an "Ero-
ica" reading means that the SRO
sign must be placed in the lobby
of Masonic Auditorium. Krue-
ger's Beethoven performances are
so authoritative and profound
that he invariably leaves his
hearers deeply moved by new
meanings in these works never
before revealed to them.
With the "Eroica" (the Third
Beethoven Symphony), and the
Sibelius Violin Concerto, Karl
Krueger will conduct the Detroit
Symphony in the charming and
delightful waltzes from the
Strauss opera, "Rosenkavalier."
