OBITUARY

Votes for Arab League
Including Palestine

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt. (WNS)
—A pan-Arab conference ended
with the signing of a protocol
providing for the creation of an
Arab League in which the sep-
arate states would have common
foreign and economic policies
and act together on political
questions.
The document was signed by
delegates of Syria, Trans-Jordan,
Iraq, Lebanon and Egypt. The
representatives of Saudi Arabia
and Yemen referred it to their
sovereigns.
The protocol pledges support
to the Arabs in Palestine and ex-
presses the hope that a new Jew-
ish problem will not be created
there. Clauses guaranteeing the
independence of Lebanon were
also included.
The findings of this prelimin-
ary committee will now be sub-
mitted to the individual Govern-
ments. After that, actual imple-
mentation of the protocol will be
started.
