LIST
(Continued from Page 1)
Anu rica. Emanuel List was only
a cabaret singer when he left
Ai4 rig just before World War
I and, upon arrival in this coun-
try, he sang in burlesque and
New York motion picture houses.
"All of my good fortune I ac-
credit to my studies and early
e xperience in America," says
List, "I think I am one of the
first singers that exploded the
theory of having to study abroad
in order to accomplish anything.
We had then and still have the
finest teachers right here in
America."
Goes to Europe
After several years of hard
work and study, young List, now
all American citizen, sailed for
Europe on it short visit to see his
mother. In a chalice audition be-
fore Felix Weingartner he was
immediately hired to sing at the
Vicuna Volks Opera. His success-
ful operatic debut and phenom-
enal acclaim for subsequent per-
formances inevitably led to en-
gagements in Berlin, Paris, Bar-
ceilona, Madrid, Salzburg, Bay-
reuth, Cologne and London. At
the same time he was also be-
coming known on the Continent
as an outstanding concert artist.
In 1933, after refusing to ac-
cept honors bestowed upon him
by Bider, the now matured Mr.
List deemed it advisable to re-
turn to America where he be-
came a member of the Metro-
politan Opera Association and
has been singing ever since.
Mrs. Abraham Cooper is chair-
man of the music committee of
the Jewish Community Center
which is sponsoring Mr. List's
concert. Tickets for the concert
are available at the Center office

changed their tune. I quote one
of them : "Hanged and buried,
Hitler lives. The evil that the
man did lives after him and he
is not dead but lives hot and
hateful in the hearts of men.
Defeated in battle and hanged,
he, nevertheless, marches to vic-
tories in hearts which he invaded
and never surrendered.
"There must be another hang-
ing—a hanging of Hitler in the
hearts of men which he captured
and continues to occupy. The
victory will not be won until
he is dead in the hearts of all
men and ejected. Unless this is
done the execution of the phys-
ical Hitler makes no sense and,
hanged and buried, he remains
the victor."
My pipe was out and its smoke
had vanished except for its aroma
that still lingered exquisitely in
the room. You may say that
the strange things I have re-
ported were just pipe-smoke, but
just the same there is a lot of
truth in it.
