Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, and even
Argentina, these neutrals made it celar
to the Axis leaders that they would not
be admitted to their countries. It is not
reasonable to assume that the United
Nations spokesmen sought to prevent the
Axis leaders from entering neutral coun-
tries merely for the purpose of denying
them a pleasant journey to a foreign
country. It must have been for the good
reason that they wanted to be able to lay
their hands upon them when the day of
unconditional surrender arrived.
It should be borne in mind that the list
was not released by the Allied War
Crimes Commission, but was a report of
the London Daily Mail and the London
News Chronicle, two highly respected
and reliable newspapers, but still not offi-
cial mouthpieces of the Commission.
Hitler and Company will, in all prob-
ability be tried by a proper tribunal and

in accordance with the law of civilized
nations.
To do less than this would be to ape
the unspeakable Nazis, and this no one
would want to do if he would but look
at the business objectively and calmly.
We do not want People's Courts, nor do
we want to follow the Nazis' legal theory
that the good of the Party is the sole
criterion, nor are we in favor of making
acts criminal after they have been com-
mitted. The ex part facto law is repug-
nant to the American and British people.
In our opinion there are enough laws
upon the statute books to convict all the
Axis war criminals.
We should adhere to our legal, moral
and ethical principles, even in the case
of "The World vs. Hitler, et al." The
good and true men and women can be
counted on to bring in a fair and just
verdict.
