Port Huron Notes
Louis Bergman gave the mem-
orial address at the candlelight
memorial service, held every year
between Rosh Hashonah and Yom
Kippur. The service was conduct-
ed by Rabbi Selig S. Auerbach.
In addition to that service, indi-
vidual services were also held on
the cemetery, led( by the Rabbi.
This was done for the first time
in Port Huron.
It was also the first time that
a special children's service was
conducted Yom Kippur after-
noon, during the recess hour.
Succoth services will be held
on Sunday evening, Oct. 1, at 7
) in., with Rabbi Auerbach
speaking on "A Succoth Thought
on Postwar Isolationism." After
the services the Congregation
will have its family gathering at
the Sukkah. At that time Sam
Adinoff will report on the recent
good will meeting of the Thumb
District, at which he was a dele-
gate of Congregation Mt. Sinai.
Other services will be held on
Monday and Tuesday mornings.
The official opening of Mt.
Sinai Religious School will take
place on Sunday, Oct. 15. Classes
have already started, but due to
the Holiday season are conducted
on a skeleton basis only.

Character Roles
Win Acclaim for
Veteran Player
Maxim Straukh has played so
many character roles in Russian
films that he can't remember
them all. His latest is the elderly
professor in "Two Soldiers," the
first dramatic film set against
the background of besieged Len-
ingrad, currently at the Cinema
Theater.
Ilis work in countless support-
ing roles has made him oti of
the most beloved actors on Soviet
screens.
One of the best remembered
roles Straukh has played was
that of Lenin in "Vyborg Side."
Not only did he look exactly like
Lenin, but many persons who had
actually known the Soviet leader
attested that he had managed to
assimilate perfectly the man's
gestures, mannerisms and quality
of voice.
When asked to explain his sus-
tained success, Straukh modestly
suggests that the term "success"
is an exaggeration, and explains
quite seriously his theory of char-
acter acting:
"For each successive role I
have tried to create an entirely
different, individual person than

ZETA ALPHA RHO
The first meeting of the Zeta
Alpha Rho Fraternity, for the
term 1944-45, was held Wednes-
day evening, Sept. 20, at Webster
Hall.
Plans for the coming year were
announced by the chancellor, Hy-
man Beale.
The Zeta Alpha Rho Fraternity
is the only all-Jewish accounting
fraternity in the state of Mich-
igan, being organized in 1929.
Ten of its members are now
in the armed forces.
