As the gates of the Nazi in-
ferno are being smashed, the
ye ar 5705 of the Hebrew calen-
dar promises to be the harbinger
of victory for America and the
United Nations, liberation for the
oppressed peoples of Europe and
of rescue and rehabilitation for
the surviving remnants of Euro-
pean Jewry. i
This is, indeed, the supreme
moment for which we have so
long prayed, worked and fought.

ment of an enduring peace, it
becomes necessary to mobilize
all our forces for securing an
early and favorable solution of
the Jewish problem through the
establishment of a democratic
Jewish Commonwealth in Eretz
Israel. For it is patently clear
that for a great many of the
survivors, rehabilitation and the
hope for a new future lies in
the expansion of the Jewish Na-
tional Home in Palestine.
The land acquisition program
of the Keren Kayemeth, there-
fore, is a task which becomes
increasingly basic to all our plans
and demands for the future of
Eretz Israel. The support of the
Yishub by American Jewry has
contributed much to strengthen-
ing Palestine's share in the war
effort and to extend the existing
possibilities for rescue and up-
building. The growing strength
of Jewish Palestine is indicated
by the fact that whereas the
number of colonies at the out-
break of the war was 247, it has
been increased to 283 as of
July, 1944. The overwhelming
majority of these settlements
have been established on Jewish

expected influx of large addi-
tional numbers of our people
make it imperative that greater
resources be placed at the dis-
posal of our people's fund so
that a land acquisition program
commensurate with the need may
be undertaken.
