Mrs. Joshua Sperka, president
of the Women's League for Sab-
bath Observance, announces that
tremendous strides have been
made in the field of Sabbath ob-
servance in our community.
Through the activities of the
League today 55 Jewish mer-
chants in the Jewish neighbor-
hoods are closed on the Sabbath.
The Sabbath League is plan-
ning to broaden greatly its field
of activity and is planning an
anniversary event to raise its
fund for this accelerated cam-
paign. Mrs. Moses Wieser is
chairman of the event and Mrs.
A. 0. Barsky is co-chairman.
Anyone wishing information can
call the president, Mrs. Joshua
Sperka. The event will take place
Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek, Chi-
cago and Lawton.
Throughout this High Holy
Day period the rabbis of De-
troit will conduct intensive ac-
tivity within their congregations
urging a return to the principles
of Sabbath Observance. Jewish
women are appealed to, at this
onset of the New Year, to re-
solve to refrain from doing any
buying on the Sabbath, to re-
frain from doing house work
within or without their homes
on the Sabbath, to attend Syna-
gogue services and to return to
a spiritual evaluation of Jewish
life. The League has two bran-
ches, one meeting in the Dexter
secticn, the other meeting• in the
Taylor and Woodrow Wilson

Donor Luncheon Oct. 31

Plans are now in progress for
the 16th annual donor luncheon
to be held Tuesday, Oct. 31, at
12:30 p. in. at the Yeshivath
Bldg., Dexter and Cortland. A
lovely afternoon is being plan-
ner with vocal selections, a guest
speaker, and the general public
is invited to attend. All proceeds
of donor luncheon go toward
the maintenance of the upkeep
of the Yeshivah.

of the hospital on Wednesday,
Sept. 20. A pre-Rosh Hashonah
service was held on Sept. 5.

Modelling Begins Sept. 20

The Center painting classes
have already begun and meets
Sunday mornings and Tuesday
evenings.
The clay modelling class will
start Wednesday, Sept. 20, at
7:30 p. m.
The children's drawing and
painting class will begin Thurs-
day, Sept. 21, at 4 p. m.
Registrations are now being
taken. The rates for an 18-week
course is $7.50 for members and
$10.00 for non-members.
