The nomination of Congress-
man Clarence J. McLeod, Repub-
lican, in the 13th District, was
strongly urged this week by
many friends prominent in the
Jewish community.
Pointing to his record of sin-
cere effort to uproot the Fifth
Column subversive activities in
this country, Congressman Mc-
Leod was lauded as being one
of the most important factors in
Congress in the recent fight
against un-Americanism.
While Rep. McLeod was fight-
ing subversive activities he never
failed to come to the aid of
worthy immigrants. He also gave
his enthusiastic support for the
cause of the redemption of the
Jewish homeland in Palestine.
As a member of the powerful
Treasury Appropriations Com-
mittee in 1940, he aided in the
sponsorship of the bill to con-
struct the Detroit Coast Guard
Station. He successfully sponsored
this legislation and this life sav-
ing station is today one of the
finest in the United States.
Voters of the 13th District
will serve the whole city by nom-
inating him for the next term in
Congress. His name will be found
on the Republican ballot on Tues-
day, July 11.

33 Hungarian Jews Reach
Lisbon on German Planes

LISBON (WNS).--During the
last few days 33 Hungarian Jews
arrived here on German planes.
Most of the arrivals are members
of wealthy Jewish families in
Hungary and all of them held
transit visas to neutral countries.
The refugees disclosed that the
Jewish population in Budapest is
in a state of panic and that tens
of thousands of Hungarian Jews
are being deported to concentra-
tion camps in Poland.
