In the following letter he gives his impres- sions of his visit. Here I am in Palestine—yet it's hard to believe it. In the States, some years back, I was a member of Young Judea and I remember the time I used to carry those blue and white boxes for the Jewish National Fund, collecting pennies to buy land for the settlement of Jews in Palestine. Somehow, de- spite all of this, the idea of a Jewish Homeland always appear- ed to inc something of the far distant future. But here I am, and it seems that the "Future" is here. At first one thinks he must be dreaming. I can understand the psalmist's . saying, "When the Lord returned the capitivity of I s- rael, we were as dreamers." Let me illustrate. This morning I was walking down the business section of Tel Aviv and I looked up at a sign to see just where I was. The street sign was Rashi St. In America, Rashi was some- thing for the bright boy in Cheder to study over, but in Palestine Rashi is a Street. I walk along Rashi St. It looks no different from the typical down- town street of any progressive city. Shops and stores of various descriptions. But somehow I can- not but believe that there is some- thing different here.
