N. Y. Church Musicians
To Perform Chajes Work
At Annual Concert

The American Guild of Or-
ganists announces that the 142nd
Psalm, a cantata for solo, mixed
voices and organ, by Julius Cha-
jes, will be performed at 'their
annual concert in St. Bartholo-
mew Church of New York City
on Thursday evening, May 18.
Dr. McK. Williams, the musical
director of St. Bartholomew, will
conduct. Hugh Porter of St.
Nicholas will play the organ, and
the combined choirs of five Epis-
copalean churches, numbering 160
voices, will perform Mr. Chajes'
composition.
The first presentation of this
work was given at the Temple of
Religion of the New York World's
Fair in 1939, and was conducted
by Hugh Ross of the New York
Schola Contarum. Since that time
it has been heard in more than
50 synagogues, churches and con-
cert halls.
Mr. Chajes is director of mu-
sic at Temple Beth El and the
Jewish Community Center.
