WASHINGTON (WNS). — An inquiry made last week by a re- sponsible Jewish body as to the position of the United States Government concerning rights of American Jewish citizens to en- ter Palestine under the White Paper banning Jewish immigra- tion, brought the reply that the State Department will deal with that question when a case comes up in which an American citizen has been denied admittance to Palestine. The State Department, to whom the inquiry was directed, declared that several thousand immigrants can still proceed to Palestine under the total allowed by the White Paper, and that there was no reason to believe that the Palestine Administration would discriminate against Amer- ican citizens. When it was brought to the attention of the State Department that, under the terms of the White Paper, Amer- ican citizens of Jewish descent would be barred from Palestine while no such bar would exist with respect to non-Jewish Amer- ican citizens, the Department de- clared that it was averse to tak- ing a stand now on the post-war situation, particularly in view of the fact that there are no ships available now to carry American citizens to Palestine.
