The other afternoon I ∎tas
highly entertained by a Walt
Disney production in Techniem or
of "When Johnny Comes March-
ing Home". The war was won
and thousands of airplanes came
flying over New York; ships tilled I
the harbors; there were parad es
and crowds and confetti all over
America! Everyone was e xc it ed
and happy—even the Statue of
Liberty was shown turning a
somersault. There was work for
all in ultra-modern automobile
plants and in factories where

Minister of State Richard Law,
answering Driberg and other
members who took his point of
view, said the Polish Govern-
ment is doing all it can to con
trol the bevahior of the Polish
troops, and that it is impossible
to permit the transfer of several
hundred highly trained soldiers
from their units on the eve of
the second front.
During the debate Captain A.
C. Graham, Conservative, al-
leged that Jews were not only
deserting from the Polish Army,
but also from the British forces
in the Middle East, and that an
"unofficial Jewish organization in
Palestine" was encouraging tlm
deserters to enlist in illegal units
which, he said, have recently
been causing trouble in Palestine.
His statement was met by an
outcry of "shame" from the floor
of Commons. Aneurin Bevan, La-
borite, interrupted the speaker
and declared "this is shocking,
you ought to be ashamed."
It was brought out during the
discussion that several members
of the House of Commons were
in possession of evidence substan-
tiating the charge of anti-Semi-
tism against certain Polish of-
ficers.

time equipment was being pro-
duced. Jeeps with cowboys i n

the western plains; helicopters
filled the sky lanes with air.
transportation. All this was only
a fantasy of how life will be
when Johnny comes marching
home. But the audience cheered
and applauded noisily, showing a
desire for that great day when
the war is won and we can re-
turn to our peaceful homes to
take up our lives where they
seemed to have been severed in
1941.
There is one aim and only one
in the heart of every good
American. That aim is to make
this dream a reality. Every hour
that can be saved, in turn saves
the life of many a fighting man.
The responsibility to save these
hours lies with us here, far from
the scenes of actual combat.
A great deal of waiting has to
be done. That seems to be part
of living a military life. But if
we can do some soldier's waiting
for him, then it's up to us to
do it. If we can do his work,
it's our responsibility to see that
it is done. The opportunity to
shoulder this responsibility is
found through service with
Women's Army Corps. We are
working side by side with our
men. As new fields become ac-
cessible to eligible women, great-
er opportunities are offered. The
radio operator, the plane d
patcher, and the Wac who charts
tights on maps, finds her job
most important and very interest-
ing, as well as does the War in
the Ground and Service Forces.
Eligible women who join the
"girls in khaki" find no more
satisfying way to hasten the time
when Johnny WILL come march-
ing home.

"Deserters" Will Be Punished"

General Sosnkowski, Command-
er-in-Chief of the Polish armed
forces, last week issued an order
of the day condemning "deser-
tions from the ranks of the Po-
lish Army" in which it was as-
serted that although six months
have passed since his issuance of
an order banning racial and re-
ligious discrimination in the
ranks of the Polish Army, his or-
ders have not brought the de-
sired desults.
The Polish Commander - in -
Chief emphasized in his order
of the day that Jewish soldiers
who have been transferred from
the Polish to the British forces,
because of alleged anti-Semitism,
would- be considered "deserters"
and punished as such. The fact
that these men were given per-
mission to be transferred to the
British Army, declared Gen. Sos-
nkowski, "does not in the least
mean that their case is settled
and that the Polish State will in
the 'future not hold for conse-
quences - those guilty of deser-
tion." While stressing that he in-
