The oppression of the Jews of Europe today
ccalls the trials of the Jews under Pharaoh in
Indent Egypt. Through the unprecedented
;32,000,000 campaign of the United Jewish Ap•
seal for Refugees, Overseas Needs and Palestine,
1merican Jews are speeding the hour of lib . era-

iving in darkness. The rescue measures carried

LT. M. A. CANVASSER

April

6 as second lieutenant,
takes his work doubly serious.
While pursuing his commission at
the Engineering School, the 22-
year-old Motor City AC devoted
his spare hours—what there were
of them— to literary research
dealing with the increased effi-
ciency of internal combustion en-
gines.
He always has had more than
the average Engineering Cadet's
interest in airplane engines and
what makes them tick.
Lt. Canvasser, Michigan En-
gineering Cadet, who in addition
to taking the regular courses and
training with his Squadron X
buddies, is doing literary re-
search in connection with this
"development". Results of the
research will go into a report on
the cause and effect of the "de-
velopment" factors that will play
all-important roles if it is to
emerge from its present experi-
mental stage.

Working on Report

Working under the sponsorship
of the AAF, the aeronautical en-
gineering graduate of University
of Michigan delves far and deep
into technical writings in prepa-
ration of this report.
But aircraft and automobile
engines were not his first love.
Back in 1939 he and a 20-year-old
cousin entered the home design-
ing field. Among their 300 or
400 plans for small homes was
one on which they obtained and
still hold a patent. "We didn't
miss an inch," Canvasser says,
in explaining that the main fea-
ture of the seven room house
was utilization of space.
Because of their ages the part-
ners agreed that they needed a
big name for their company.
They chose "Builder's Co-Opera-
tive Plan and Specification Serv-
ice of Detroit".
