Heifetz's Playing of Mendelssohn Concerto
On Toscanini's Easter Symphony Program

Jascha Heifetz, the noted Rus-
sian-American violinist, will share
honors with Arturo Toscanini on
the General Motors Symphony of
the Air program, Sunday, April
9 (NBC, 5 to 6 p. m., EWT),
for the performance of Mendels-
sohn's Concerto for Violin and
Orchestra in E-Minor. In ob-
servance of the Easter season,
Toscanini will open the program
with the Prelude and Good Fri-
day Spell from Wagner's Par-
sifal.
The concert will mark the final
program of the Winter Series un-
der Toscanini's baton. On the
following Sunday, April 16, Dr.
Frank Black, conductor of the
Summer Series of concerts, will
take over the GM-hour podium.
Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto
enjoys a popularity second only
to those of Beethoven and
Brahms. In tribute to the roman-
tic classicist master, Heifetz said
in a recently published Mendels-
sohn biography: "If it is con-
ceivable that the music of Men-
delssohn can die, then all music

Happy at Finding Relief
With Cereal Food!

If you've often despaired of find-
ing lasting relief—read this un-
solicited letter!

"I cannot forgive myself for not trying
your KELLOGG'S ALL-BRAN many
years ago. My constipation kept me busy
digging In for money to pay for laxa-
tives. I tried every one I could find, but
got only slight relief. I have been eating
KELLOGG'S ALL-BRAN for three weeks
Pow, and am as regular as can be!" Mr.
Thomas Lewis, 805 16 Fourth Avenue, N.,
St. Petersburg, Fla.

Scientists say one common cause
of constipation is lack of sufficient
"cellulosic" elements in the diet!
But Nature has made KELLOGG'S
ALL-BRAN one of her most effec-
tive sources of these important
elements! They help the friendly
colonic flora fluff up and prepare
the colonic contents for easy, nat-
ural evacuation. KELLOGG'S
ALL-BRAN is not a purgative!
Doesn't "sweep you out"! It's a
gentle-acting, "regulating" food!
If you have constipation of this
type, eat KELLOGG'S ALL-
BRAN regularly with milk and
fruit, or mixed with other cereals.
Drink plenty of water. See if you,
too, don't get real help! Insist on
genuine ALL-BRAN, made only
by Kellogg's in Battle Creek,

can die." In view of this state-
ment it is particularly interesting
to note that in conformity with
the "Aryan ideology" of Nazi
Germany, Mendelssohn's music
was barred in that country after
1934. Mention of his works has
even been omitted from German-
published music encyclopedias
since that date.
Wagner's Parsifal has been de-
scribed as the most striking ex-
ample of the composer's genius
for moulding into dramatic mu-
sic his impressions from life and
reading. The conception for Par-
sifal came to Dagner, according
to his own account, on Good
Friday, April 10, 1857, Wagner
was "rejoicing in the refuge of
the green hill near Zurich," a
new home prepared for him by
friends, but into which he had
not yet moved. The sun shone
brightly, the garden was in full
bloom, the birds sang and "all
around reigned richly promised
silence." Filled with this, he
presently recalled that the day
was Good Friday, and he re•
membered how significantly the
reminder had come upon him
once before—when he had read
Eschenbach's Parsifal. It was
from this "Good Friday idea"
that Wagner conceived his mu-
sic drama, which he at once
sketched out "anti divided into
three acts".
Charles F. Kettering, vice
president of General Motors and
directing head of its Research
Laboratories, will speak briefly
during the intermission period.
