MARRIAGES

Patrons of the Civic Light
Opera Company are promised a
week of hilarious fun, thrilling
music, gay dancing and the tang
of the sea when Vincent You-
man's nautical musical comedy
is presented at the Masonic Tem-
ple Feb. 29 to March 6, inclusive.
"Hit the Deck," as the name
suggests, is of the sea and the
life of a sailor ashore and aboard.
The shore scenes are Looloo's
water front coffee house, in New-
port, and "Sloppy Robert's" bar.
Other scenes are on the deck of
the U. S. Nevada, and aboard the
yacht skippered by a girl named
Charlotte. Many amusing charac-
ters are to be seen and heard in
this carefree and joyous musical
The many musical numbers are
of big hit caliber and include
"Hallelujah," "Sometimes I'm
Happy" and "Join the Navy".
The cast of "Hit the Deck" is
a long and important one, and
brings back to Detroit the popu-
lar leading man Robert Shafer,
and Jack Sheehan, a comedian
of high order. There are several
newcomers to the cast who have
big reputations as singers danc-
ers and impersonators. These in-
clude Sibyl Bowan, Sammy
White, Dorothy Dare, Eunice
Healey, Xenia Banks, Lyn Shir-
ley, Paul Reed, Harold Patrick,
Bill Acorn. Local favorites who
have important roles are Made-
lyp Killeen, Joseph Macaulay,
Melton Moore and Frederic Pers-
son.
