Donor Luncheon Feb. 9

- The first donor luncheon of
the Louis Marshall Women No.
390 will take place Wednesday,
Feb. 9, at the Crystal Ballroom
of the Book Cadillac Hotel. Dr.
B. Benedict Glazer will be the
principal speaker. A worthy pro-
., gram has been arranged for this
occasion, presenting Gus How-
ard as guest entertainer. Mr;,
Charles Solovi•h, president of
the Women's District Grand
Lodge No, 6, will deliver the
Bnai Brith message. The invoca-
tion will be given by Airs. Ruth
Metzger Feldman, who is past
president of the Women's Dis-
trict Grand Lodge, and was the
first president of the Pisgah
Women, who were the first wom-
en's Bnai Brith group organized
in Detroit. They are giving their
first donor luncheon, and all the
funds realized from this affair
will be used for Bnai Brith proj-
ects.. Mrs. Lena Zohott, who is
chairman of the donor luncheon,
urges all those who wish to at-
tend this luncheon to contact her
at Trinity 2-3189 for reserva-
tions, thereby avoiding last min-
ute preparation&

PHILOMATHIC CLUB

Elected speaker of the Philo-
mathic Debating Club, Morton
Zieve will preside over meetings
from Feb. 7 through the end of
June. Chosen in the general elec-
tions held Sunday, Jan. 23, Mor-
ton succeeds Lawrence Arden as
the head of the club.
Morton is the gold medal win-
ner Of the club's oratorical con-
test which was held at Shaarey
Zedek on Jan. 6; Sheldon Seles-
nick and George Rembaum took
second and third respectively.

liam Friedman and Norman Lee-
mon were the judges for the

Hillel To Hold Winter
Dance on Sat., Jan. 29

Bnai Brith Hillel Foundation
at the University of Michigan will
hold its annual winter dance
Saturday night, Ian. 29, in the
ballroom of the Michigan League
in Ann Arbor.
The music will be provided by
Dave Hildinger and his hand.
Official chaperones for the dance
are Professor and Mrs. Saul Co-
hen and Mr. and Mrs. Osias
Zwerdling. Patrons and sponsors
are the following townspeople:
Rabbi and Mrs. Isaac Goldman,
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kaufman,
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Shorr and
Mr. and Airs. Murray Kamrass.
For the first time in the his-
tory of the foundation the dance
will be open to the entire stu-
dent body, and no admission
charge will he made. However, in
cooperation with the Fourth War
Loan Drive, the purchase of a
25 cent Defense Stamp per
couple will be asked of all guests.
The chairman of the social
committee in charge of the ar-
rangements or the dance is Fay
Bronstein of Cheyenne, Wyo. She
is being assisted by Rita Hyman
of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Selma
Smith of Utica, N. Y., who will
sell stamps throughout the eve-
ning.
Stan Wallace, president of the
HMO Student Council and a
resident of Detroit, and Selma
Smith, music chairman, are in
charge of the entertainment for
the dance. Cpl. Charles Weisberg
of Co. C 3651 service unit, A. S.
T P of the United States Army,
will serve as master of cere-
monies for the evening, introduc-
ing Eileen Blum of Erie, Pa., as
guest soloist, and members of the
cast of the original army show,
"Biding Our Time," written by
Cpl. Hy Wilotsky.
In keeping with a long stand-
ing tradition of the annual win-
ter dance, Avukah, the Student
Zionist Organization on campus,
will sell flowers, with the pro-
ceeds going to the Jewish Na-
tional Fund. Sally Gottlieb of
Flint, Mich., is in charge of the
flower booth and is being assisted
by Lois Newman of Grand Rap-
ids. Judy Jacobs and Zina Etkin
of Detroit, and Shirley Levin of
Akron, 0. Henry Popkin of
Providence, R. I., will assist in
the preparation of the booths.
An attendance of 500 people
is expected.

Arthur Howard
Promoted Again

Arthur Howard, who has been
serving as a law clerk under
Major James E. Spier of the
Judge Advocate General's Office,
was recently promoted to a War-
rant Officer.
Within a period of about 59
days Arthur received his promo-
tion from Pfc. to Corporal and
then Warrant Officer. He is sta-
tioned in India in the Air Trans-
port Command, and Major Spier,
under whom he serves, was for-
merly Circuit Judge at Mt. Clem-
ens, Mich., and is well known
here.
Arthur is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Julius Howard of 1438 Bur-
lingame Ave., and his wife, Mar-
go, and daughter, Michelle, reside
on Chicago Blvd., Detroit. He is
also a member of the law firm
of Howard & Howard.

LIBERTY SINGING SOCIETY

Liberty Singing Society will
hold its annual donor luncheon
at the Wilshire Hotel on Tues-
day. Feb. 8, at 12:30 noon. A
$25 War Bond will be presented
to the one holding the lucky
number. War Bonds and Stamps
will also be sold at the luncheon.
The musical program will in-
clude vocal selections by Rhoda
Zahavic, Detroit dramatic so•
piano. and Henri Goldberg:, bari-
tone. Mrs. Eliza Stullman will he
the accompanist for both artists.
Miss Shirley Newman will pre-
sent several Yiddish readings and
recitations.
Airs. Walter Litt and Mrs. .1.
Walerstein are in charge of ar-
rangements for the luncheon.

L. J. Goodman Leads
Detroit Mutual Life
Agency for 1943

Louis J. Goodman has again
qualified for the Life Insurance
Leaders of Michigan as a result
of his outstanding production in
1943. This is an organization
composed of all life insurance
men in the state who pay for
Over $250,000 of business per
calendar year.
At the annual agency meeting
of the Detroit Agency of the Mu-
tual Life at the Book Cadillac
Hotel on Jan. 31, Mr. Goodman
will be honored because of being
the leader in the agency in 1943,
and will he presented with the
agency trophy which is awarded
each year to the leading pro-

Rabbi Rothenberg to Be
Sabbath Observance
League Speaker Feb. I

A regular monthly meeting of
the Women's League for Sab-
bath Observance, 12th Street
branch, will be held Tuesday,
Feb. 1, at 2 p. m., at Congrega-
tion Beth Tefilo Emanuel Syna-
gogue, Taylor and Woodrow
Wilson. The guest speaker will
be the eminent Rabbi M. Rothen-
berg, dean of the Yeshivath
Chachmey Lublin, who will have
an important message to deliver.
It is urged that all members and
their friends be present as an
enjoyable and interesting after-
noon will be in store for all.
Refreshments will be served.
Mrs. Isadore Levin will pre-
side.

On Friday, Feb. 4, the Bnai
David gathering will be devoted
to the presentation of a school
program. In place of a guest
speaker the children wit' per-
mitted to participate in the pro-
gram. The Religious School choir,
which has been assisting every
Friday night, will have a special
program at this school forum.
As Part of this program, a
display of school books, curri-
culum, posters, art and craft
work will be displayed in the so-
cial hall of the synagogue dur-
ing the entire week-end.
Robert Solomon, a student of
the 12th grade of the Bnai Da-
vid Religious School, will give
the resume of the Sedra of the
week. Rabbi Joshua Sperka will
officiate and Cantor Irving Ring, ,e1
will chant the musical portion,
assisted by the larger school
choir.
Mrs. Joseph Jacobs, represen-
tative of the Sisterhood on the
Friday night gathering commit-
tee, announces the following

social hour following the school

ZEDAKAH CLUB
All members of Zedakah Club
met at a dinner-dance last Sun-
day night at the Book Cadillac
Hotel, to celebrate the 23rd
birthday of the organization.
The past presidents and the
president, Mrs. M. Davis, cut the
huge birthday cake which was
served as dessert. Mrs. I. Shevin
and Mrs. M. Knopper were in
charge of the arrangements.
