LEAGUE OF JEWISH YOUTH

The Friendly Unit, a group of
young married couples, are mak-
ing plans to adopt another child
from Iran. The first child was
adopted in June of 1943.
A touch of reality was added
to the meeting of the Friendly
Unit on Dec. 26 when President
Burnett Krauss read a letter
from his brother, Fred Krauss,
who is now stationed in Iran
with the U. S. Army, and told of
personally visiting the war or-
phans in Iran.
The need of additional funds
for saving the lives Of these wa•-
torn youngsters was urged ill
his letter.
A card party for the specific
purpose of raising additional
funds to adopt more children
from Iran will be held at the
Jericho Temple Wednesday eve-
ning, Jan. 23. All are invited.

The Well Known Rev.

of Cong.
Beth Tefilo
Emanuel

William McGaffin, chief of the
Associated Press Bureau in the
Middle East. will be the Detroit
Town Hall speaker in the Fisher
Theater on Wednesday, Jan. 12,
at 11 a. in. He comes direct from
Cairo where he reported the his-
toric conference between Roose-
velt, Churchill and Chiang Kai-
Shek. After a 14,000 mile air-
plane trip, McGaffin arrived in
this country only five days ago
for his first furlough in three
years.
1 He was under fire in France,
went through the London blitz
and the Dunkirk disaster. He
covered the big news in North
Africa, the Middle East and
Mediterranean, India, Russia and
Egypt. The first news man to re-
port General Stilwell's salty com-
ment on the adventure in Burma,
he was on hand in India when the
first American doughboys arrived.
From there he flew to Russia in
May, 1943, and was present at
what he calls the real turning
point of the war there when the
Red Army stopped the German
offensive in July. In August he
flew to Cairo where he was
made A. P. chief for the crucial
Middle East. He covered the
Lebanese troubles, then returned
to Cairo for the three-power
c onference.
The American lecture tour of
Mine. Wellington Koo, previ-
ously announced for this date,
has been definitely postponed due
to diplomatic exigencies which
keep her in London.
