Bids Goodbye to
Rabbi Morris Adler
On Sunday, Dec. 26, at a com-
bined assembly of both the inter-
mediate and high school depart-
ments of the Shaarey Zedek Sun-
day School, pupils and teachers
bade farewell to Rabbi Morris
Adler who left last week to be-
gin his work as a chaplain in
the armed forces of our country.
Robert Vasle, president of the
junior congregation, spoke on be-
half of that organization. Marilyn
Weisman, ninth grade pupil, said
boodbye for the students in the
religious school. Mr. Jacob Rog-
vay, 12th grade instructor and
senior teacher in point of service,
spoke for the factulty and pre-
sented Rabbi Adler with a certifi-
cate emblematic of the inscription
of his name in the Golden Book
of the Jewish National Fund, pur-
chased with contributions of the
pupils and faculty members. Dr.
A. M. Hershman added his fare-
wells and wishes of godspeed for
Rabbi Adler's safe return. Cantor
Sonenklar recited a "Misheberach"
in Rabbi Adler's honor.
The assembly was concluded
with the singing of "Hevenu Sho-
lem Aleichem (we bring greetings
to you.)

to Virgil Thomson was born in
Kansas City, Kan., studied in this
country and in Paris, and his
music is chiefly characterized by
a witty, ironic style. He has
worked in many mediums—cham-
ber music, opera (he attracted
a great deal of attention to hi s
opera, "Four Saints in Tkree
Acts" which he did with Ger-
trude Stein), choral arrange-
ments and piano works.
In addition to his creative
works in music, Mr. Thomson is
a brilliant writer and is music
critic for the New York Herald
Tribune.
On Jan. 6 Mr. Thomson will
direct the Detroit Symphony in
his suite from "The Plow That
Broke the Plains".
